Double Bass bass stand

Corner. Floor. Corner. Floor. Corner. Floor. Bumpers on ribs on the damm floor or corner.

I think it would be a laugh riot watching eight great classical section bassists in the New York Philharmonic Orchestra trying to put their priceless basses on stands during a rehearsal break.
Youtube worthy.

Same here, but add in a puppy that the cats aren't too happy with all the time. I just don't trust leaving it out of the stand.

my cats and dogs are scared to death of that thing. they give it a wide berth. when stood in the corner leave the EP extended, less wear on the screw. when it is laid on its side for any lengthy period, retract the EP, less chance of a penalty kick by a chinbone or snagged by a pant cuff.

I have one of the Hamilton style stands and an [URL="http://www.gollihurmusic.com/product/1344-UPRIGHT_BASS_STAND_INGLES_SA_22.html" ] Ingles stand [/URL].

IMO, the Ingles is much more stable than the Hamilton. You have to replace the foam cushioning (I used rubber hose from the hardware store) but I think it's a great stand for the money. Here's my bass sitting on the Ingles, ready for a quick practice session any time....

No way I'd prop my bass in a corner-- my Meisel stand is quite sturdy and the whole thing sits in the corner. Then again, no young kids or pets around. ;)

I use the Ingles stand for when my air mattress is taking up my floor, but when that's not out, I leave my bass leaned against the chair I sit in to play. It's this fold up chair with a curve on the front of the seat that fits the C bout pretty well. Amazing what $20 dollars will get you.

More specifically, it's Franklin from Ikea. Very nice stool and stand for bass.

I've got mixed feelings about using a bass stand (I've got 3 Ingles stands). One of my stands came with one of my basses and my husband bought two more (he was trying to help manage the space in our smallish house). I'd prefer to use a corner, but my house doesn't have many interior corners. I don't trust animals near the basses when they are on stands. My 16 pound cat could surely topple/destroy a bass on one of my somewhat flimsy stands and I'm careful to keep the door to my music room closed while I have any basses in the stands. My nicer basses don't stay in the stands on a regular basis.

What the stands are GREAT for is taking photos of your instruments. You can move them around to get the best lighting. Not that you'd want to shell out $60 to $80 just so you can photograph your bass... :)

Kept mine in a corner for a year or so, then bought an Ingles. I leave the peg extended and the Ingles adjusted so that the peg clears the floor by an inch or so. I do not haul it around to practice sessions but do take it to concerts where there are many apparently blind trombone and tuba players stumbling around. It is very sturdy and seems to be extremely stable. When looking around the net, I notice that they are apparently used by many shops and if you look around , you can find them for about $50.00. IMO they are worth that and more.

Sorry to go somewhat OT. I'm a bit puzzled by your post because all I did was suggest in post #2 that you check the previous threads. I didn't rail against anyone for posting his/her thoughts. I made no attempt to stifle communication. I'd say that there are sometimes (not always) new opinions and one of the things I enjoy about this site is reading new opinions and thoughts. Indeed, this is a community and those of us who "live" here regularly see newbies asking questions that have been answered many, many, many times. It makes sense and helps us all if such folks use the search function first and then ask any questions that weren't answered. In the case of stands, we've had several recent comprehensive threads and I tried to point you to them. So far, this thread offers no substantially new opinions that I see. Still, I defend anyone's right to post in it and even I did! I figured I'd go with the flow after making one attempt to steer you toward previous threads. So, my request to you is that, in the future, please use the search function first.
