Bass Through Guitar Amps

When I run a stereo out on my 4003, I use a Marshall head with a 212 guitar cab for the bridge pup. Never had a problem, and the guitar set up makes the bridge pup sound great. It's like having two different basses playing at the same time.

Lots of bassists use guitar amps. In the olden days, an amp was an amp. No specification of what they were for, the original Dave Reeves Hiwatt "AP" (for All Purpose) circuit comes to mind. Keep in mind, the open backed 4X10 AlNiCo tweed '59 Bassman that so many guitarists cherish was designed for bass use originally.
Forum member nysbob uses a Marshall Super Lead (but with 6550's I think) running to 12's and an SVT running to 15's. IMO his rig sounds like the voice of God, and I've had my ears within 10 ft. of a "couple" of big bass rigs over the years. ;)

I know of several artists and local bands that use a guitar cab and/or amp for bass for effects. They either run through a crossover or have a bass amp that has a low/high output. If crossed over at around 100hz or higher, there is almost no excursion going on even at high volumes so there won't be damage to the speaker.

I didn't know this.
I knew he always used a guitar head, but I didn't knew he used guitar cabs.
Marshall 4x12 guitarcabs I assume. ???




On topic,

Many guitar amplifiers sound great when you play a bass through it.
The biggest problem is the speakers and open-back cabs.
A guitar amp head + a bass cab is no problem. (unless there are some guitar amp heads that risk damaging by the bass signal that I don't know off.)


I'm planning to get a Fender Blackface Deluxe reverb combo amp for my bass.
Not for gigs, only for home recording. This is a guitaramp that works well with bass.

Maybe even taking the head of this guitar combo and pairing it up with an Ashdown ABM 210. That would be a nice little rig.

I personally think bass through Guitar amps (Read: Guitar Heads into bass cabs) is pretty cool. That's how a lot of bassists used to get their sound. I mean, the 100w Marshall was created, in part, for a bass player: John Entwistle. Jack Bruce used 200w Majors. There's video of Noel Redding using a wall of Marshalls. As previously mentioned, a lot of these amps used to be All Purpose. What I find funny is that G**tards often think that the Marshall Super Bass was always intended to be a guitar amp with more bass response....:rollno:
Or that the Vox AC100CPH is marketed as a guitar amp, when it was originally built for Macca......

They do? How odd. I would think that "Super BASS" would be um... rather obvious.
