I've been playing for a little over a year, and I've always heard people describe bass tones. I have not been acquainted with these terms, (ie. growly, warm, etc.) and for the longest time I thought by warm people meant deep. Can someone help me clarify how to describe bass tones? Thanks alot.

theyre really just ways to describe what part of the frequency range is most emphasized. warm would be lows an low-mids, growly describes increased mids, presence would be near the highest end of the range, honk would be the nasaly part of the mids around 500 hz, crisp is like presence but not quite as high. thats all i can think of off the top of my head.
You have to hear them to know.

I think there is a glossary of terms somewhere on this site. Alot of the terminology is vague, subjective, and unscientific; what one person considers "warm" another may consider "flabby" or "mushy" et al.
Is there a sound clip library?

Certainly, nearly all the the terms we use regularly are highly subjective. Warm, dark, brittle, wiry, bright.

As in:
So and so from this band has a Growly tone.
This guy from whatever has a warm tone...
Maybe.
Like I would say flea has a Crisp Growly tone?
Or are these too hard to agree on?

Reference to specific songs or parts in a song always seem to provide a standard description, like Geddy Lee tone on Limelight or something like that. It is hard to use warm, deep, thin, etc, because everyone has a different meaning in their head for those words. "Limelight" tone or "Jesus Just Left Chicago" tone provides a touchstone we can all go touch. I prefer "Grand Funk early years" tone when I play.....
