Bass Transcriptions

A @FatStringer52 request
I played many Toto songs over the years. Not this one, though. I expected more improvised parts, but still a good bass line
Toto - Somewhere tonight | Bass Transcription | Mike Porcaro

I know you said this was on your to-do list, and I know how long those can get, but did not expect to see this so quick. What a nice Sunday morning surprise! Thank you . . .

Just an FYI: I can read the score, but for others who may not be able to, page 1 of the tab is missing on your site.

Don't know what happened there, but it's fixed now :)

Love this song

I always have a problem transcribing synth bass lines when the synth tone is not(!) stable.
It's a very nice song - it has MOOD and Character, which are my first tools to assess a song/composition.
I would try to notate it slightly different (just two measures).

Measure 1.
First two notes - triplet 8th notes.
The second "batch of notes" - again two triplet 8th notes without that third G.
The third "batch of notes" - three triplet 8th notes without the second one.

Measure 2.
As I've mentioned, some synth bass tones are not stable (ON PURPOSE! - that's the beauty of the synth tone generation)

Let's say, instead of just first A note, I hear the following notes (purposely generated by the synth)
Descending - Bb A G A and, ascending, A.

Before the G note in the second "batch", I hear F to G.
I believe that movement - F to G - is not played but generated by the synth.
And I don't hear that D before C.
On the C note - the last "batch" of notes - I hear some purposely generated by the synth movement from B to C but not played.
And that last batch, I would notate as the triplet 8ths.

I'll remove it shortly.

Here's a hybrid synth/real combo that gave me an interesting challenge. Which notes to include and which to exclude whilst keeping some level of coherence, stamping a bit of my own character and having something actually playable...

Just a question.
What "forced" you to call the chord, Db as C# and use slightly confusing sharps in the key.
The same question about D#m7 chord.

No reason, other than having to write it out quickly one afternoon. Db and Eb are better all round.
Edit. Sometimes I capture things from the bass using a Sonnus Pitch/MIDI device. If no signature is set in the DAW, the default accidental when exporting to MuseScore is #. I think this was one of those occasions.
