Bass Transcriptions

This is a bit of an odd one. In the beginning it's very clear what the bass plays. After a while, however, it sounds like 3 instruments playing parts of the intro bass line. I have notated the part that's just to the right of center in the mix

Syncopated swing 16ths and one of the most relaxed songs I've heard in a while
Raveena - Honey | Bass Transcription | Aaron Liao

Yes, it's a beautiful song, but...
I've tried to follow your notation of that bass-riff and got confused.
Yes, we have syncopated swing 16ths, but I hear a different articulation.

I hear it (just 2-beats) as...

The third note is short, and I need to hear a rest in the bass line.
I don't hear the fourth note as a short note of two-swing notes.
The 4th note is, kind of bursting in on Beat 2 - that's how short that syncopation is.
It's only my interpretation of that simple bass riff.

A soundclip of that 2-beat part.

You're absolutely right, but this is part of the bass player's "feel". It's very laid back. If you would write down every interpretation/feel/mistake/badly fretted note/... it would make the transcription illegible.

Have a listen to Ryan Newman's playing. Imagine how a transcription would look if you write this bass line in every small detail as played. It's just very, very, very laid back playing

It means that we need to have some new markings like "drunk swing". :roflmao:
My issue with Raveena's bass transcription was that I started playing "shuffled notes" and it was wrong.

I had a really bad stroke in 2016 and lost the use of my fingers in my left hand and "Green Eyed Lady" was instrumental in my full recovery. My neurologist (a classically trained church organ player) advised mr to go back to the building blocks of music that I played over and over as a teenager. Among other therapy routines, I literally tried to play "Green Eyed Lady" at the slowest metronome settings for over an hour a day for 6 months until I got it up to speed. That and all the basslines from Zenyatta Mondatta.

Impressive and mind blowing. I hope never to be tested like that.
