It's really about how well they were installed more than anything. If the peg holes don't line up well, any tuners will bind. I've had some luck wrapping a binding peg with teflon tape on both ends to smooth out the action. Acts as a teflon bushing bearing of sorts.

The other thing that can afflict any tuners is when/if the tuning key shaft gets bent from rough transport. This can cause binding in the outer worm bearing, and is easily noticed when changing strings.

Sloan tuners on a ply bass are the proverbial "lipstick on a pig".

My advice would be to "tune up" your tuners next time you change strings.

Definitely Rubners. Proper fitting requires the luthier to cut a small recess in the pegbox cheeks under each worm gear so they can fit flush without the gear binding.

I learned that one the hard way. Whoops.
