Got my "Gentle Giant" all dialed in for winter commuting with fenders. (8 miles home in the pitch dark is not a problem with modern LED lights and a nice wide shoulder on the highway portion.)

I can't believe how tough & durable these slick tires are! I've been training, touring & commuting on them since August and there hasn't been one hint of trouble. (The front still looks close to new.)
Sometimes with the weight, I feel like I'm riding an e-bike with a dead battery. (Until I pick up one buddy's old steel wheel Schwinn or another buddy's actual e-bike and realize I'm not so heavy after all...)
The solidity is nice on the descent. Pushing 40mph coming off a pass, it feels more like a motorcycle than some rickety, wobbly bicycle.
I can't for the life of me get those cantilever brakes to quit squealing! And neither can the two pro mechanics I got to adjust them. I might try some V-brakes at some point - that should be a good, easy project.
Speaking of projects, I took on a new volunteer gig, fixing up old donated bikes for the needy.

It's actually pretty selfish of me; I gain fluency with bike repair and make mistakes on other people's bikes. After a year of this, I might be ready to play a bike mechanic on TV.
Thus far I've learned that cables & housing are pretty simple to redo, and that I'd rather revive a decent bike that's been out in the rain for 10 years than attempt to tune up a Huffy that's been garaged & never ridden. (No offense to any Huffy owners out there, but they can be extremely frustrating to work on...)
