Basses for us weak folks

Yeah, But I live in Perth.
And while there are basses, most of them are complete crap.
My best bet at the moment is a new lighter body for my jazz bass, Which I love dearly.
but still, I want to hear whats out there still.
This may be teh interw3bs, but some of us are licensed healthcare professionals. It is an obligation to inform people to not put themselves at risk from questionable advice.

Excellent, although you must take TB opinions with a grain of salt as many offer expertice with 3-4 different basses as "experience".
The Fender Urge and Urge Standard are smaller and lighter. The Aerodyne is also an awesome option. Too bad custom is not an option since Rob Allen basses are some of the deepest sounding and lightest stuff on the market!
Truth be told, weight on production instruments can vary greatly. This can work on the lighter side, but those tend to be a little rare. Sometimes, picking through something like Fenders as an example will have something light somewhere in the batch.
G&L Tribute JB2 is around 7 lbs of J-bass heaven at a reasonable price, considering the OP's budget. A US-made one will also be in that weight range. Use a strap that distributes the weight to both shoulders, and you should be OK.
How about an Ibanez SR? I don't know about Australia, but they seem to be everywhere in the US and the ones I have tried out have been light. Someone already mentioned an Aerodyne, if you want another jazz bass that could be the way to go.

The Urge looks (and most probably sounds) awesome.
As do the Rob Allen basses, not really my style to be honest, however I know they kick ass
The last bass I bought was an Ibanez Ergodyne 4 string.
light as all hell, thin, fast neck.
But it felt weak to me. There wasn't enough power to it. But YMMV
I think it was the active pre amp, I just think they are to fiddly.
But I haven't tried any others so I should probably look into them
Try a Parker Fly Bass. Very light. Maybe around 7lbs. Or the Zon "Vinny". Can't weigh much.
Then again anything you do might aggravate your back/shoulder. Hopefully, you recover fully and it won't matter in a few months.

I do hope that my injury gets better, but I was having trouble with my basses way before that anyway.

Light but more costly would be a Dingwall. Probably end up too much.
I share your pain with heavy basses.
We have several wonderful basses which are too heavy for me. 8^(

I use the Planet Waves tubular bass straps, the wide cushy ones that are like 3 inches wide. I don't even notice the instrument being on when I use them, maybe it'll help?
Lets keep on subject:
Lightest basses I have played up to date (and more importantly CHEAP)
Ibanez SR
- the pre is actually good especially anything over the 300 series (even the 300 is okay but the 400s-700s are seomthing else)
- neck is thin and the body is thin - may be great for you but I am still on the fence on overall lightness of the whole thing to me it feels like I am playing a plastic toy and kind of like sort of weight on the bass
Squier basses
- At least those made of Agathis - probably not the greatest tonewood out there but I
would put it up around the basswood area of sustain
- the basses are cheap and you can mod the heck out of them also for cheap
If you get a Affinity Jazz you can always swap the pickup or neck or even drop
an Audere active pre in there fairly easily
now these are on the super cheap end of the spectrum
with a little more cash you can some of the other suggestions told here

I switched to EUBs for similar reasons.
When I told my PT about my changeover in instrument style he agreed it was the right thing to do.
