Basses in London!?

There are another couple of largeish stores that sell the 'Tanglewater' range - Bass Direct in Warwick (the town, not the bass manufacturer!) and the Bass Merchant in Colchester. Both of these would take a train journey of an hour or more from London, plus probably a taxi ride at the other end, so the Bass Gallery is probably best - but it's good to have all the options!

Disclaimer: I've not been to either of these stores. Or the Bass Gallery. But when I've got some money to spend they may all get a visit from me, given that I'm located within an hour or two of all of them, and my couple of local shops are okay but quite small.

Thanks for the additional info, nice looking stores. I've finished making my travel arrangements and I'm going to be styaing near London Tower. Suggestions on public transportation to the Gallery or in general?

London Tower? Do you mean the Tower Of London? There's two easy ways to get to The Gallery from there - the easiest is to take the District or Circle Line from Tower Hill tube station (right next to the Tower Of London) to Bank/Monument (one stop), then change onto the Northern Line heading north, and go to Camden Town - it's a 5-minute walk from there. Or, if you feel like a walk, cross the river over Tower Bridge (the one that all Americans think is actually London Bridge :D ), go to London Bridge station and take the Northern Line to Camden Town from there.

The London Underground is pretty easy to navigate (far easier than, say, the NY Subway) so you'll be able to find your way around easily enough.

Not sure if anyone mentioned them, but Dan Armstrong had manufactured a bass called London Basses when he was living and working there.

If you see one, especially if the headstock says "Dan Armstrong London", grab it!

I've been to London a bunch of times in the past couple of years, and only came across one, and it had just been sold.

Ugh.

Oh, and here are some other attraction tips:

A piano bar in the basement of a restaurant called "Sopranos" in the Kensington section.Cool, mirror covered piano with locals banging out songs and everyone singing.

Also, don't forget Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club. None more famous in the world.

And, if you get a chance, go to the Queen's Rose Garden. Its always prettier and better then any other in London.

Back from my Bass Gallery adventure, great time! Thanks to all who suggested checking-in there.

I wanted to checkout something I couldn't get in the USA and not spend big bucks. One of the basses I "targeted" before I left was an Overwater/Tanglewood Classic J. They had one in the color I liked (CAR) and I really liked it, very nice bass. One of the features that I found different from a Fender J was the tone pot setup; volume, blend, tone versus volume, volume, tone. Anyway, it's on its way back to the USA.
