can everyone just stop with non stop slapping on bass reviews and pickup, preamps and amps...to my ears is says absolutely nothing about how the bass sounds other than how it sounds when doing slap..which is different that just playing...Its almost as if every song in the world includes slap and really very few do...

Is it that you are trying to show the world how great you are at slap? What is up with all this? if I am listening to an instrument or gear to get an idea of how it sounds..I don't want to hear all that popping and muted string sounds that slap has..I wanna hear how the bass sounds...or other gear...good lord just make it stop already...

Preach! It's brutal. Most times I find it unmusical and unbearable to listen to and just move on.

I'm loving the replies on this..lol...ya know its not like I'm sitting here ready to jump out a window plunging to the sidewalk below over it...but I guess most of you haven't noticed the pervasive amount of slap happy bass players...many of which are not even good at it. whatever tho..I know that the only real way to hear anything you want or may want is by hearing it in person, however it would be nice if the ones that do slap would also play their equipment like a bass player too...

If you want these people to base their gear reviews around your preferences, you could always pay them to do so. Seeing as how you're not and a lot of them do it just to be helpful and make no ad revenue, you don't really have a lot to complain about.

I'm going to reply to this comment.. first off why are they even bothering to make a video which is going thru some trouble to do gear reviews if they are not going to bother with making it at least reasonable..they may as well play the bass with it unplugged...because if as you say they are being helpful they should also know that it is not helpful at all. Also, don't give me that you don't have a lot to complain about bizness...I have plenty to complain about, you're just getting the slap rant today....

It doesn't have to be helpful to you. Lots of people slap a lot- not catering to your personal wants does not mean something isn't useful. And if all these YouTubers are doing all these slap demos and it's as prevalent an issue where you deem it's worthy of complaining about (even though as was said it's free entertainment for you), then clearly they are useful to each other.

I actually have. In all fairness it was Ed Friedland's review of a G&L LB100. I was thinking of ordering the bass and his video convinced me. I think he even did some slapping. Oh My.
My personal beef with YouTube videos is when the drum track is 5X louder than the bass being played. What is the deal with that??

I'm a slapper and I'm a defender of the style. I play funk and r&b and jazz among other styles of music that utilize the style. I do agree there is a lot of 'bad' slap happening in GC and music stores across the world and also on youtube. Do some diligence and find a decent demo of the bass you're interested in. Plenty of good videos out there. Or just google Ed Friedland. All the demos you want playing just about every bass ever made. Stop wasting time fussing and declaring. It just stirs up the pot in a negative way. The style is never going away so please get over it already.

The reviews I end up watching seem to show all kinds of techniques over all kinds of pickup and EQ settings recorded through a nice audio interface. No complaints.

What really grinds my gears is seeing all those bass videos and not a single fretless is ever used to demo that equipment I'll never buy. It's almost like I'm not their target demographic or something.

We feel your pain.

What I've started to do, in an effort to reduce the TimeSuck aspect of Youtube, is limit my viewing to a few content creators that I know and trust. I actually started following a few, and rarely watch other content unless someone sends me a link saying 'check this out'.

So far I don't feel like the world is passing me by.

I appreciate that if your thing is clicking lots of review videos every day just for interest's sake, this may not help.

I can understand you! Whenever I walk into a shop,

there is someone who tries to do "Mark King vs Flea"!

Well, guitarists do strange things with their whammy bars and tapping. ("Van Halen vs Hendrix"?)

Drummers…. Okay, forget about drummers!

I haven 't slapped in a band for at least 10 years... (I play mostly fretless)

But I will always play some slapped lines, when I take a bass in my hands.

It must be a virus or something!

What would be next to ask reviewers to stuff a sponge in there?

Felt mute, vs hard foam vs soft foam…. with flats, tapes,...?

Everybody has to check what he/ she wants!
