basses on you tube...really? Slap rant...

The truth is many bass demos suck. Sure, people are doing them with perhaps little compensation from ad revenue. That doesn't change that many of those videos fail to add value - and sometimes actually subtract value. Some demos are nothing but slap. Others have thin boxy tone. Some are some cat explaining in excruciating detail how the controls on a passive Jazz-style bass works. Others have cats with such terrible chops that all you hear is bad technique.

Those things make me appreciate good demos even more.

can everyone just stop with non stop slapping on bass reviews and pickup, preamps and amps...to my ears is says absolutely nothing about how the bass sounds other than how it sounds when doing slap..which is different that just playing...Its almost as if every song in the world includes slap and really very few do...

Is it that you are trying to show the world how great you are at slap? What is up with all this? if I am listening to an instrument or gear to get an idea of how it sounds..I don't want to hear all that popping and muted string sounds that slap has..I wanna hear how the bass sounds...or other gear...good lord just make it stop already...

thats all..
Don't you also love it when people do bass reviews and play everything super choked/staccato. Makes me think "wow wonderful sustain" followed by me rolling my eyes. Personally that along with slapping are a sales trick imo. If they don't show you how the bass sounds without choking the hell out of the strings or slapping you'll never know how crappy it actually is lol. If you ever work in a music store it's a good way to sell basses to people who don't know any better.
