So you're anti "anti-slap" (which is not the same as pro slap)?

I do think slap has it's place in demos. Given that I slap about 1% of the time (and that's mostly when I'm practicing), I think all demos should be 1% slap. And, to make certain I can appreciate how it'd sound if I slapped, it, I'd appreciate it if you did it poorly.

There sure appears to be ALOT of vehwy thenthitive players.
Since many of the box type music stores have a very limited selection/stock of gear, many like I rely on the multitude of YT videos to further their purchasing prowess.
I bet most here have heard this: "With the tone shaping capabilities of the {fill in the blank} you can easily dial in your specific tone." {Jump cut to player with bass.} {begin slippity slappity bling blam.} {Jump cut to gear} "From thick and full, to a clean articulate tone, and with the {fill in the blank.} the world of tone is at your fingertips..." {Jump cut to same player and begin again...}
Best reviews I have ever seen/heard are the dudes which typically set up a line via a looper, record it via DI, play it back and go through knob by knob/dial/switch/button etc...on a shoestring budget.
Reminds me of the late Bill Hicks take on advertising...pan out from a belly button, reveal a nude woman, and say, "Drink Coke."

can everyone just stop with non stop slapping on bass reviews and pickup, preamps and amps...to my ears is says absolutely nothing about how the bass sounds other than how it sounds when doing slap..which is different that just playing...Its almost as if every song in the world includes slap and really very few do...

Is it that you are trying to show the world how great you are at slap? What is up with all this? if I am listening to an instrument or gear to get an idea of how it sounds..I don't want to hear all that popping and muted string sounds that slap has..I wanna hear how the bass sounds...or other gear...good lord just make it stop already...

Without reading a single reply, (not because I'm not interested, but because I don't want my opinion swayed by anothers'); I think it's not "you are wanting to show the world how amazing you are at slap." I mean, hell, how good was Paul McCartney on slap? How about Lemmy? How about any other amazing great who just happened to not predicate his existence on his ability to slap?

You said, "Good lord, make it stop already." I completely agree. To come to a quick close, I'd say, ignore the ads that feature slap, pop, and any other effect, ability, or habit you're not interested in.

To answer your question, YES. Everyone CAN stop with the non-stop slapping on bass. But you have to be willing to pass over those advertisements. Focus on what YOU want. Only then will you stop asking the questions you ask in this thread.

Agreed. If you consider a bass a tool (as many people do), would it not be best to showcase how it works under most (if not every) methods of use?

No, we don't. But the anti-slap, pick vs fingers, and extended range vs 4 string bass threads will never end. Ever. It's sad. Folks should just worry about themselves and not concern themselves with what others do.

I feel you on the reviews... slapping proves nothing about sound. Also, I prefer to not have to hear tons of slapping in general since I am bad at it and it makes me feel inferior...

I don't slap much but I really like slap in a demo video. I feel it gives a very strong taste of the basses sound and allows me to understand the particular tone of that bass.

You know what's more annoying to me than that constant tapping on a bass? People who tap on the "." key more than they need to....different strokes....I guess......

Seriously. I'm at the Winter NAMM show every year for work. A couple of years back it was Sunday afternoon, all of my meetings were done so I was just walking the floor browsing. I'm used to the 8,000 people slapping every bass in the place, but I saw I guy slapping a 6 string Schecter guitar. At that moment I decided the show was over for me, texted my coworkers and hit the Mariott bar.

you should consider that some people might be interested knowing how a specific bass sounds when slapped. you know different strokes for different folks....well actually even the bass player on that old song used to slap a little bit . BTW, I apologize for my avatar.

YouTube is still making money for itself. They made it impossible to monetize your channel at all recently (let alone the very small amount most make) unless you have quite a lot of subscribers and views.

Well I can't slap for poopie. So I'm morally and ethically opposed to seeing others do it on internet videos I'm under no obligation to watch.

If you want these people to base their gear reviews around your preferences, you could always pay them to do so. Seeing as how you're not and a lot of them do it just to be helpful and make no ad revenue, you don't really have a lot to complain about.

Honestly if they are making no ad revenue then perhaps they should pay more attention to what people actually want to hear and see. Slap bass might not be it after all.

I'm a slapper and I'm a defender of the style. I play funk and r&b and jazz among other styles of music that utilize the style. I do agree there is a lot of 'bad' slap happening in GC and music stores across the world and also on youtube. Do some diligence and find a decent demo of the bass you're interested in. Plenty of good videos out there. Or just google Ed Friedland. All the demos you want playing just about every bass ever made. Stop wasting time fussing and declaring. It just stirs up the pot in a negative way. The style is never going away so please get over it already.

The average person in a bar *loves* slap bass. That's why that Paul Rudd 'slappa da bass' meme has so much traction. And it never occurs to them that the intro to Seinfeld was played on a keyboard.

If I could slap better I'd do a lot more of it. People dig it.
