This sort of matches my experience when I play the ASAT semihollow fretless. Clear orange with ebony board and matching headstock combined with a distinctive MASSIVE tone. I get comments, especially from other musicians.I wouldn't say it commands authority but my G&L ASAT drew a mixed response last gig( first with it) lots of sounds great did you get it custom made, a guitar body with a bass neck??

Even the coolest bass, poorly played, will fail to do much of anything.
i think vin's bass wins, but my newest acquisition is pretty commanding:
