To be honest I wouldnt buy either of those two basses you have mentioned, but not because of the way they sound

Im not going to see Vai, I have never been a huge fan of his work and couldnt really justify the cost - if I had more money I would go along because I imagine it would be a decent show, however some unexpected bills have arisen recently!

Disagree on the Rogue. I got a 405(5 string) cause MF had a glitch and dumped some last week for < $150 AND since I hadn't gotten a 5 yet AND it had active(although cheapo) electronics. AND I have children(read budget)...I hadda get it. So far I've no complaints. I currently have an 80's Steinberger, an Epi Explorer (to be upgraded with T-Bird pups), a FrankenBird I'm working on. I've owned Alembic, 60's T-Birds + Fenders, EB's, etc. so it's not like I'm floored by Rogue's high quality. For me it was affordable(NOW) and functional(now I gotta 5).

I also got the VAI double DVD at a local WalMart(Texas) for super-cheap...Sheehan won't disappoint you but he does show his road mileage.

Vai would be OK if he'd dump the "act like an 80's hairband star" stuff(watching him licking the strings while looking at probably an unseen female fan just doesn't do much for me)...technically he's excellent.

sheehan did dissapoint me....for most of the set he was playing too much, especially in for the love of god, he cant groove and i thought phillip bynoe would of done a better job

A bad bass for me - Rickenbacker. I can pick one up, and the tone is pure junk. Hand the same bass to somebody else, and it sounds like a classic Rick. ***? No, I always sound like me, so if you don't like the way I sound the bass won't make "that" much of a difference. Amps on the other hand...................................

Yamaha BB404. Is probably the worst sounding thing I have heard. My church owns one and we use it as a back up and loaner to the worship team.

I played it when I first started and thought it was ok but now I can't stand the sound of it. It has no character and you get no effect from the tone control. It picks up a nice 60hrz hum from the stage lights if you turn the wrong way on stage. It also picks up a hum if you turn down the bridge p/u and turn up neck p/u.

My old school had the most hideous squier bass ever. It was black, with a white pickguard, dull strings, and **** pickups. I only used it once when I forgot my rockbass, and I wanted to smash it after. It sucked.

Hey wait a minute my very first bass was a Peavey T-20 and it sounded great. a one trick pony with a fat neck, but it had a great tone.

The John Myung sig and the lower end Washburn models. Also the early Fender Deluxe 5's. They just hadn't worked the kinks out I guess.

You are correct and I agree. Is that a lack of patience, groove-a-phobia, get-out-of-pocket-itis, or what? QUITE a bit different than Stu with Satriani.......

2) EBOL tried with nylon tapewounds---YUK-thudMud
