Basses that would be comparable to a Spector Euro

Hey guys, just wondering what basses you'd say are compairable to Spector Euro's (LXs)

I'm currently in the market for a new 5 stringer. I have a Spector Euro 4LX and love it but wanted to try some other guitars also. The problem is MANY guitars that would be comparable aren't easily accessible to me as the stores dont carry them around where I live.

Just throw some ideas out there, I'll look around for places I can try them. I am interested in Warwicks as I do like the feel and sound of them. What would be an equivalent of sorts. Any help is appreciated!

I recently bought an absolutely factory-mint but preowned Schecter Stiletto Elite 5 - plays like a dream with VERY low action and no buzzes at all. Sounds good enough to be worth tweaking to the last degree at the amp. I was shocked by the very high quality of the woodworking and finishing when I played one at GC. Neck-through construction is a real find at this price level and it makes a difference. Wonderful bass.

$800 at the usual suspects; mine was $550, but the guy I bought it from has 10 Alembics (??!!) and didn't use it.

+1000 I have the same bass bought it used also and it too was dead mint (the guy wanted to learn how to play...you know the rest) I also have a Spector 6 legend I traded for here on TB, the legend has been upgraded with an Aguilar pre and EMG TW 40's (?) and I think that Schecter may sound better Check out the Schecter links and see what they have 2 say 'bout 'em.

Back when I was playing a Spector Euro NS4, I got a Euro NS5 to match it's high output. When I got tired of the 35" reach, the only other 5 I could find that was a good match tone and output-wise was the G&L L2500.
I tried a Stiletto, but didn't think it was a great match switching at the gig.

A Warwick Thumb, in my opinion, is very different from Spectors (and most other basses for that matter). Even Warwick Streamers I find to be different enough that I don't really compare them. They have a similar body shape, but in terms of sound and feel, I don't think they are that similar. A Stage 1 is about the closest to a Spector you'd get (which, admittedly, I have very low experience with), but the rest of the Streamer line (LX, Jazzman, Stage II, etc.) to me has a very different sound than Spector. I am a huge Warwick fan, however, so I definitely recommend them. I'm not saying you'll like them more or forget Spectors, because they are very nice basses and a lot of people do like them, but I would suggest trying to test both out, or at least find sound clips and videos to get a feel for each tone. Won't help with the feel of the bass, however, and that's something no one can really help you with unless they have a bass you can test.

If we're talking tone here, then nothing. I'm not even kidding. You won't find other basses that sound like the Euro or USA model Spectors without going custom. Between the wood, the pickups, the pickup positions and the preamp they really have a sound all their own. Even the Euro 4LX, which has a more traditional pickup configuration sounds quite a bit different from any other PJ bass I've ever played.

Actually, I have to revise that I little. Warwick just released their limited run model for this year[/img] and it actually sounds VERY Spector-like! So basically if you want the Spector sound get a Spector or grab that Warwick, lol. Also, the Warwick Streamers may look similar to Spectors in terms of the body, woods used, and pickup placement but, trust me, they have very different sounds.

If you like your Euro 4, why not just get the 5??


If you've ever actually A/B'd a Stiletto to a Euro 5, you'll see and hear and feel they're hardly "comparable". The closest thing (as me being an ex-Modulus user exclusively) would be a Q5, but that's going to be a totally different sound. The overall quality though is gonna be about as good as you can get.
In all honesty there's very good reason the Euro's are so popular in that they really are almost US-quality and definitely have the right sound (depending on preamp choice, of course- nothing touches the HAZ Lab/Spector USA circuit).

A Warwick Thumb or other high-end Warwick would be comparable in fit, feel, construction but is giong to be much $$ in price and sound extremely different.
