Basses with narrow neck but full scale (33"+)?

Peavey Dyna wins the skinny (and thin) contest. .. this is thinner than a foundation or fury.

IF you have time a Dyna Unity (neck through) is even easier to play.

IF you look hard you can find one with VFL pickups for under $300 shipped.

Take a look at Dean or Luna. I have a Dean Q4 Bart. and it has a very slim neck. I paid $400 for it a couple of years ago and like it.

I thought the ESP surveyor bass had a VERY thin and comfortable neck, and it sounded beefier than the ibanez soundgears to me.

I don't know what the 4 string is like, but my Hohner B Bass has a pretty narrow fretboard for a 5.

Before you spend a dime, have someone look at your form. I'm a pint sized guy, but can basically play anything comfortably....without neck dive.

The basses with the thinnest necks are without a doubt Ibanez (SR & EDB); they're 34" scale. Try finding a SR500 - it's a very good bass for the money. But of course, Ibbys are no Fender type basses...

I have owned dozens of basses (including Ibanez SGR) and a GL Jazz has the thinnest (at the nut) neck I have played.

I would definately have to recomend an Aria Pro II SB series bass (such as a SB-1000, SB-700, SB-Elite I, etc.) I have owned one for a while, and most people who have played them can tell you that they have a rediculously narrow neck and string spacing and the necks are extremely fast. And though they are rare, you can many times find one for $500 or less. For the sound think Cliff Burton or Duran Duran.

US Masters. Their 4str are 34", their 5str are 35". They have narrow string spacing at the nut, plus the neck does not fan out much, going to the bridge

Dingwall basses have slender necks & I can't imagine getting much fuller scale than 37"

Are there any affordable basses that aren't short scale but do have a narrow neck? I have quite small hands and the neck width that basses like P and J basses reach at the top end of the neck is really uncomfortable to me.
Short scale basses usually seem to have a narrow neck, but I feel that there is some tone tradeoff with a shorter scale.
Does any one know of any Fender style basses with a narrow but full scale neck? My budget is miniscule too I'm afraid, but all suggestions welcome.

My 5 string is a very comfy bass to play if I stay off the B string. That is the only reason it is still here. I almost never use the B but love the narrow string spacing.

To the Original Poster... does it have to be Fender Style?

Cause Thunderbirds have awesome necks (I hate Fender necks now). Epiphone Birds are even good! Not as thin/fast as the Gibsons, but its much better (for me) than any Gibson.


Should be easy to find in a respectable store to try it first hand. Nothing beats your own preference...

I'm looking for options in the same quest, of a narrow nut measurement like on my Ibanez SR 600NTF ( [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] ).
I've noticed that Hofner bass guitars have extremely narrow necks ( Invalid Link Removed ), but they don't float my boat. I'm still looking, only because as much as I love my Ibanez, I find their shape and overall options for body shape and look to be boring. I do love the Ibanez Grooveline bass ( [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] ). That is a beautiful instrument, but currently out of my budget. I've owned two in the past and have to say they are the most comfortable bass I've ever played. I'd love to own one again.

Things I look for though, are more than just narrow nut width. I prefer an unfinished neck (no clear coat) and 24 frets (incidentally the Grooveline only has 22 frets, but it's still a fave with me).
