Basses you love to hate?

Fender made a series of very nice basses in red and blue with a paisley design on the front - don't remember what they're called. I got overdosed on paisley during the 60's and wouldn't own one just because of the cosmetics....even though every word I've heard about them is positive.

I wouldn't own any bass with a paisley design, ever.

I also really dislike almost every tort pickguard I've ever seen. Same with sparkle and pearloid.

Not a Peavey fan, but I'd sure like to try a G-Bass. Seems like such a great idea (poor man's Modulus), and they don't really sell for all that much.

Not a Warwick fan, but I have a Warwick ovangkol neck on one of my FAVORITE basses.

Made fun of Dano's and Silvertones growing up (we called them "bathroom scales"), but a Longhorn reissue would be a cool weapon in the sound arsenal. I now get their "kitch cool" factor.

I had a ric copy, it was physically painful to play night after night (binding cut into my forearm) but I sure wouldn't mind a Walnut Cheyenne.

I NO LONGER hate on 6-strings...in fact, I WANT one. NOTHING, in 6 years of playing, has felt quite as "right" as the neck of a 6-string. Was afraid to try one because I owned a HEAVY Spector ReBop 5, and always joked, "if I wanna play 6 strings, I'll just go back to guitar!" Now that I'm wanting to learn slap, the first order of business is to find a comfortable bass...on a WHIM, picked up at Schecter 6 and was AMAZED at the light weight. Next trip to my local music shop, they had a nice light Ibanez SR506.

So....in essence, I guess I "hate on" all "heavy" basses. ESPECIALLY basses with EFFING NECKDIVE issues! THAT bugs me!

Fender.. Dear god i hate Fender. Iv'e been hating Fender since i began playing bass guitar. Hate the neck, hate the pickups, hate the sounds... ANd i especially hate the fact that they are overprised (just my opinion). But i do have respect for those who play Fender :)

I've always said "friends don't let friends play Epiphone,"

...but I love those Jack Casady models. I know I'm being subjective, but the goldtop is the most beautiful bass I've ever seen. I just need the wife to give me the go-ahead on the $800 bucks...

One day.

Warwick, Spector, Musicman, Ibanez, Schecter, Dean, Wish.

Sorry to those I'm offending, feel free to hate Rics.

Now I don't actually hate Rics, more like I was put off them at an early age. In 1968 when I was looking for a replacement bass, for the one I had just snapped the truss rod on, I walked into the music shop with what bit of cash I had. In my price range (bargain basement) they had a beat up Ric and 62 Precision that someone had refinished with a brush.

I first tried the Ric but didn't like the look, the feel or the sound. The P looked 10 times worse but I picked it up and plugged it in and even with it's original strings (probably) it sounded better to me. It also felt like I had been playing it forever, just so comfortable. I bought it and refinished it again and still own it.

I have tried Rics since but still think they feel numb and I am still not keen on the shape. I currently have 8 basses, all Precision or Jazz or derivatives (MM and G&L). Next one I buy should be a Gibson maybe!

Everything that looks like a Fender, because I cannot tell the difference without a second look. 60s re-issue, 70's re-issue, 50's original, and whatever other models and issues. I cannot tell the difference. Others see the inlays and can almost name the week it was made....I have to look to see if it isn't a Lakland, or Sadowsky, or SX.

That said, it is awesome that there are so many different styles and genres that are done on these...so I am grateful that at least the players are unique

im a bc rich guy and i dont care for fenders, nothing wrong with them but to me they just look blah like a seen one seen them all me too bass :hmm: and im not a fan of the way most p basses feel or sound (never played a jazz bass though i might like one of those) but i do really like the aerodyne model and really wouldnt mind owning one.
