Basses you love to hate?

Fenders. Everyone has them, they're practical and they suit everyone. But they're expensive, not that fancy, and immensely boring looking. It's like paying $40,000 for a Corolla... no thanks.

A $2000 P, to an untrained eye, looks like it would've costed $200. Meanwhile, a $500 Traben or something would look a million bucks to most of the audience.

Also, I can't stand the looks of those headless, futuristic looking Kubicki basses (however you spell it). But I bet they play and sound great, and I'd love to try one.

My $0.02

I don't think there is a particular brand I don't like. However, I remember those Dean fretless Rhapsody basses that came out a number of years ago. I made the mistake of buying one, and it had a neck that must have been made out of rubber. Try putting Fender flats on those things and it'd bow out like a recurve. Make a nice lamp, though.

My thoughts on the Gibson EBO
"If you love indistinct vague low notes of questionable origin, a sound as aggressive as a mouse at a cat convention, string taughtness that rivals jello, sustain that rivals a teenage boy's first sexual encounter with a swimsuit supermodel, and the fine intonation adjustment of a lump of molten slag, THIS IS THE BASS FOR YOU!"

...and I own one. :D
