Bassist or Bass Player?

hi my name is terran and im a musician. my family told me i spend to much time making loud noise and disturbing the neighborhood. so they sent me here to try and get over my addiction.
Lol I thought alot about it, but this one is the best I think:
A bassist is one who knows his/her instrument like no other, knows how to play his/her instrument blindly and makes the best of his/her "solo" part.
A bass player is something like a Rookie, a middle class bass-student, or just a semi-pro.
Nice eh?

Btw, this makes sense: Bass player magazine, I don't think professionals read those magazines, so it's more for bass players haha(no offense).

Then I started hearing about these "bassists" and figured it must be some new fad that had something to do with all that poppin and slappin or something.

Overall, I love being a musician.
Bassist, because that's basically the only word we use in Dutch. Bassguitarist is also used, but that's less common. I don't mind if someone who speaks English calls me a Bass Player though, it's all the same to me.

When I introduce the band, after introducing everyone else, last I simply say, "My name is Dave and I play bass". My buisness card simply says "Bass". I assume no one thinks I mean the fish.
