Bassist with Joe Cocker

Yep. Definitely Alan Spenner. He also played on Frampton Comes Alive (The New York tracks -- Not the San Francisco ones) and the soundtrack for Jesus Christ Superstar. He gets my vote for number one underrated bassist of all time.

Not to take anything away from Alan Spenner, but he only played on a couple of the Frampton Alive! tracks. The rest were all performed by Stanley Sheldon.

I have always loved that bass track on Jesus Christ Superstar w Joe Cocker
Great feel, great sound

His name is what.. again? Anybody??

edit whoops i thought it was Joe but it maybe Murray Head is singer.

i recall the bass sounding differently through real juke box tube amp/speaker... very driving sound.

Alan Spenner bump!

Check out these videos of the man in 69 with Joe cocker. 2 full (but short) sets from the same day. Feelin alright and the Letter are repeated, I can only assume because they were on fire during both performances of each tune. Alan's funky R&B, Jamerson inspired chops are captured in full here with a surprising amount of camera time on the bass player for the era. Great Grease Band bluesy jam intro to both sets!

This is the same guy that played Jesus Christ Superstar around the same time. :)

****Bonus, in case other Spenner fans haven't seen it, Grease Band in 71. Not my favorite tune of theirs but still, they rock it, and good footage of the band in action
