Bassists "nerdier"?

well its been said bassists make better producers..
It depends where you are.. It seems in most places bassists are less commmon than drummers, but in my town drummers are SOO hard to find..
and how many drums actually rely on a drum machine permanantly?
I dont think we are neccesarily the backbone of the band- look at the doors, or the white stripes..

I think it depends on the person, and come on, somebody has to make up for the drummers ignorance?

Nerdy AND prone to smugly patting our own backs... we're basically the Dwight Schrutes of the music world...
in my experience, guitarists can let the fact that they get endless solos and attention persuadethem that they are the centre of the band...
also, IMHO the bassist should be in control of the volumes, otherwise the guitarists just compete and turn themselves up too much...anyone else found this?

i'm not sure it is the easiest instrument, maybe easy to play, but not necessarily easy to play well. it takes practice and determination, as does any instrument.
and comparing instruments' ease of playing is highly subjective - haha maybe its true and bassists are nerdy 
Hmm, I consider myself an otaku and translate manga from Japanese to English, both aren't even my first languages.
I don't know, if that's not nerdy, I dunno what is.
But I don't really see a trend there. I've never met a fellow bassist I'd consider nerdy at all.

Bassists aren't all geeks, certainly, but as I've been pointing out here for many, many years, "if the band has a geek, it's almost always the bassist."

Nah....actually ALL of the guys I play with (well with the exception of 1-2) are nerdie....one of the lead guitarists claims (proudly) that he is the nerdiest of us all!
I think im only the nerdiest in my band by default for being the youngest(by about 8 years). I know more about computers, watch anime, play video games, read blogs, listen to different music than them. So yeah, by default im the nerdiest in my band cuz they're just not into the things im into by their age.
Nerds are only lame when you are in certain levels of public and state education systems...after that, Nerds are the people making 6 figure salaries and managing the people who were "cool" only years ago lol.
But seriously, what's wrong with having expertise? I'd much rather trust someone who knows their gear up and down and how it operates than someone who goes "umm...yeah, so my amp sounds good cuz its loud..." like I usually hear from both guitards and some fellow bottom feeders. Nerds are the bomb, just look at the guys from Weezer!! =)

I would think that a nerd would not be intellectually satisfied by playing the three-chord songs that Weezer played.

I'll confess I probaly am a nerd...of sorts..not the sterotype....but I think musicians and bassist more than any other are shall we say...a tad different.... my guitarist grabs his guitar and head and does his thing- our second guitarist- (who is at heart a bassist and switched to guitar a few years ago) and I end up taking shop, gear twiddling knobs and generally being a tad OCD.... I guess eccentric would be the best discription for me...around here bassist seem to be the most educated people in the bands..and usally are the fat guy....but again thats not everyone...generalization are hard...but I got a cool fortune tonigh when I went for Thai it said "your eccentricity adds color to others lives" how appropriate!! - but if I am in the company of nerds- I really have enjoyed getting to know all the bass playing folks around here!

I'm obsessive about everything I'm into - and I'm waaaay into the bass! So in that respect I guess I'm a bass nerd. Not a tech nerd at all - probably too old for that.
