Bassists that have left great groups

are you fans of any groups or bassists where a bassist left the group either before or after the group attained fame?

for example, maybe the old bassist from tool. so if you are a fan of tool, or the old bassist, this would count.

any others?

David Hungate left Toto after four highly successful albums. He wanted to return to session work and felt that the fame associated with touring would interfere with his family life.

Jason Newsted left MetallicA. I understand that crap that he went through but still, that took really big balls to walk away from the biggest, most famous heavy band in the world. I am a HUGE fan of both.

Good stuff. Good call on Metallica. What I am looking for is someone that left the band while the band was on top. Who I had in mind was dirk lance from incubus. He left after morning view, back to back mainstream albums that were a hit.

Metallica is interesting. I don't know enough of the details of why he left, but he didn't really leave when they were on top, right?

The departure of Dirk Lance completely changed the sound of Incubus, and the internet world is catching on. The new Incubus just isn't the same without him. He apparently had an impact some of the songwriting since he played acoustic as well.

It sounds like that is the direction the band wanted to go in. Many bands, like rhcp, go for this mainstream sound. Compare s.c.I.e.n.c.e to the newest album. Compare freaky styly to I'm with you. I think a lot of these bands sounds changed based on a mainstream sound. It's too bad, I like the diversity.
