Bassists that you stick up for

I find that here on the Talkbass forums, people are always quick to dog someone out accuse them of "selling out" or "sucking" . Who have you regularly or recently stuck up for? I have went to bat recently for :

Kip Winger
Adam Clayton

I suppose the guy I tend to "stick up for" would be Abraham Laboriel, Sr. Not because he gets any kind of bad mouthing (frankly, it's seems it would be difficult to find fault with the man or his ability) but largely because he seldom gets the recognition he deserves.

Pete Wentz...haha just kidding! I've been "blessed" with the honor of meeting him once. He's a tool and a sucky musician - although quite a business man if I do say so...but seriously, one day I'll beat his a$$ when he doesn't have 400lb security guards around.

Ben Kenney. Dirk Lance's slap style tends to annoy me, and Kenney is a much more melodic player within the context of Incubus.

Adam Clayton is another one, same as Cliff Williams, plays simple and for the song. That doesn't make him a bad bassist.

Ben Kenney. Dirk Lance's slap style tends to annoy me, and Kenney is a much more melodic player within the context of Incubus.

+1. I had mad love for Dirk in the beginning, but Kenney is a better overall musician and I think he writes his lines more appropriately to suit the band. Kinda funny how his style and Incubus' newer song writing styles go hand in hand and have contributed to Incubus' ongoing success. Imagine if Dirk Lance was still playing on any of the new records... That band would probably be toast nowadays.

He is a great player, and very professional.

I don't know if he needs much sticking up for - I've never heard someone talk bad about MUSE's bass lines...except for people who've actually never listened to MUSE.

Peter Steele. Most of the dudes I know who are into music always dismiss Type O Negative as a cheesy gimmicky band. I like them because they're cheesy and gimmicky, but I also really, really dig the songs, Peter's playing in particular. I find it to be very tastefull.

Peter Cetera. I don't care if you like "The Glory Of Love" or not. The guy is a GREAT bass player, and also a GREAT singer.

Sting- ditto, even if you think he is too much of a precious "artiste".

Um, that is with all due respect to those that don't like either of these folks...
