With all the hating on guitards (different than guitarists), thought I'd share a more positive story.

The guitar player in my band isn't the greatest player in the world. He doesn't have a lot of experience, has serious rhythm issues, and has very little self-confidence.

But I wouldn't trade him out for anything. He doesn't overplay. He has zero ego. If I ask him to turn down he usually says, "Yeah, that's a good idea." He's a great guy, has a great attitude, and we have FUN when we play.

We're currently on hiatus, as he's in the Air Force and was deployed to Central America. But I'm really looking forward to his return so we can continue to have fun. Because for me, that's really the bottom line.

Anyone else?

P.S. I've dealt with my fair share of guitards, trust me.

Me as well...

First of all he's a cool dood ... no other way to put it. He's got his head on straight.

2nd of all he also plays bass in another band so he... "gets it"
3rd he's talented to the point that he has written, recorded, produced, played all instruments on his own record in the past. Which in all honesty sounded like music and wasn't hard to listen to. I am constantly asking questions and picking his brain. He's glad to answer.
4th I actually think he's a pretty good player ... he understands dynamics, when not to play, and when he can get away with 4 more bars in a solo.

he has a steady 8-5 but you can tell his passion is playing music ...

and most of all... anyone that throws the Star Trek theme into a solo on a gig ,and pulled it off i might add, just to see if we would notice ... how can I not like the guy.

Both our guitarists are great people. Stellar musicians, fine people and all around fun to hang out with.

The only problem with one guitarist is he can't hear. Whenever I tell him his solo is 4 bars long for some reason he hears 8.

My guitarist is awesome. One of the most tasteful and informed players I know, if not THE most on both counts. His knowledge of theory and his application of it is mindblowing, and I'm pretty well versed in theory. He's studied jazz for years and plays remarkably well in any style and his sound is uniquely his.

I like my guitarist, he is a cool guy, never borrows anything from me... he never over plays and yes he will turn down if I ask.... He brings me beer on occasion, he writes most of the material but always ask me what I think? and is willing to change something if me or any other band member ask..... he doesn't have a ego at all....

Gotta say, especially after Saturday night, that the guitarist in my band has pleasently surprised me. At rehearsal he ocasionally forgets the odd riff of two, but always has the tabs on hand, which isnt the best of things.

On the other hand, at our gig on saturday i could hear him quite clearly for once, and noticed how consistent his playing is, he didnt put one note wrong for the whole set. He's also quite a good guy to be around, uses a small amp (100w SS 2x12) and is never too loud.

I don't have a "band", but my "guitarist" is my brother, and if it weren't for him, I wouldn't be playing bass. Same goes for my "drummer", who I've never personally played with, but got me into bass.

I go to a school with a strong music program, so I know a couple guitar players. The 3 of which I have known have all been awesome fellas. I've never played with them, so that might be a whole new story.

The guitar player in my band is a great guy, zero ego, doesn't overplay, and, most importantly, he knows how to listen.
At the end of the day, you're dealing with human beings. And every team (sports, theater, music, etc.) consists of individuals. There are nice bassists and not so nice ones, nice directors and not so nice ones, nice quarter backs and not so nice ones, nice drummers and not so nice ones, nice guitarists and not so nice ones, etc., etc, etc.
I don't believe that playing a particular role or playing a particular instrument automatically sends a person into a labeled box - I believe that would be called stereotyping, right?

Only ever been in one band, but both guitarists would have been considered my best friends during my time with the band. Both were great musicians, and the lead guitarist in particular was ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLEY GOOD in basically any genre he turned his hand to.
I already knew the lead guitarist before I joined, but now we get on really really well. It also helped that both guitarists accepted that I probably wasn't up to their standard at my instrument. They also respect bass :D
Looking forward to meeting up with another two guitarists in the next couple of weeks, who both seem like good lads.

Never had a problem with any guitarist iv met (:

I've been very fortunate with my guitar players. Been through 3 bands with one and 2 with the other. Both of them are excellent musicians and my skills have improved for having played with them. I like to hang out with em too!

There have been quite a few that have come and gone, but I can honestly say I haven't experienced the horror stories I read around here.

Drummers are another thing entirely......

I like my guitar player too! He's a nice guy. He is usually telling me to turn up the bass and play more to fill in the gaps left by having no rhythm guitar. I had a bit of an issue with him taking up too much space on my side of the stage but that has gotten better too.

I'm into this twice over. I play in two groups, different genres (blues and rockabilly), with two completely different guitarists. Both are the band's "leaders" but have totally different styles, backgrounds, and technical fluency. However, both are really great to work with.

I love the three guitarists in my band, my brother, my cousin, and my best friend. They all have there special qualitys. My brother can wing any song almost flawlessly with literally no knowledge of music theory. His rhythm is unbeliveable and it scares me at times. My cousin and I get to write crazy songs and pull them in and out of genres that shouldn't work, but somehow do. My friend just started over a year ago and hes gettin really good really fast. When we play together it always ends up jazzy so I get to practice my basslines. They will all turn down if asked, we all get along, and none of them over play. I LOVE MY BAND hahaha :bassist: :D
