In my opinion, one of the most under-rated and under-recognized bassists ever to play rock and blues was none other than Eric Clapton's former sideman Carl Radle.

Here's a thread on Carl, his basses, and a lot of his work. A "must read" for those who don't know who this man was.... heck, he was the bass player for Clapton's "Derek and the Dominos" and many other famous musicians:
