Bassists you think more should know of....

CARL RADLE:

Without a doubt, MORE people need to learn the history and the music of the legendary bassist, the late Carl Radle. Carl was the bass player for Eric Clapton in Derek and the Dominos, and through 1979. He also played with Gary Lewis and the Playboys, Colours, Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett, George Harrison, Art Garfunkel, Leon Russell, Freddie King, Buddy Guy, and John Lee Hooker and many others.

There is a great link going with details on Carl Radle, his Fender bass, and his awesome blues and rock bass lines:

Mick Karn

Percy Jones

Leigh Gorman

George Murray (David Bowie's bassist from '76 to '80)

+1

Percy Jones never seems to be mentioned, but his work with Brand X is just plain tasty. I love his work on Malaga Virgen (frankly I just love Mooccan Roll:bassist:)

Now for a completely different addition, I would put Kansas' Dave Hope on the list. He's not a flashy bassist, but he put together some rather solid bass lines for which he doesn't seem to get much respect.
