Bassman's Wife Needs 6-string Bass Advice

I love my rocker bassman husband. And I'm starting to shop for early Xmas, but I need your expert advice. He's got a 4-string Rik (4001V63) and a 5-string Groove Tools Conklin, circa 2000, but he dreams of playing a 6-string too. (He's also a guitarist with some mighty fine axes.)

No slap and pop, no jazz: he's an old rocker, from 60s to 90s. Does some country rock, some alt pop, but truly loves the hard rock. I'd love to find him some well-priced, used, custom 6-string, but am clueless as to whether it means a Roscoe, an Elrick, a Warwick, etc. (One more thing: he tried out a Pedulla once and hated the sound.)

I'd love advice/input, if you have the time. Many thanks,

Actually, no slap, no pop, please. And Lesfunk, I know it's best for him to decide, but he never allows himself the treats that I do. So unless I "surprise" him (gulp, scary I know), it doesn't happen.

Modulus Quantum 6. He'll have it forever and the 17mm string spacing will be super comfortable for fingerstyle. New they are pricey, but used you can find some killer deals. And from all of us husbands, I thank you. My wife bought me a 75Jazz that I'll keep forever. It was a wonderful gesture.

What kind of budget are you looking at? There's so many good choices, that you really should set down a number.

Also look into Peavey Cirrus 6 stringers. That may be one of the best values in a 6 string. You can find them used pretty frequently for under a grand.

If he's looking for a six string, that might not help much. My local GC had all of one six string in stock last I was there, and I'm pretty sure it was a beater. :hmm:

Love youse guys! You're all so cool to help out the wife. I'm hoping to stay within the $1K-1500 range, tops; which is why I'm thinking a brilliant, but used axe.

Though Armbruster had a sweet idea about the gift card, um, Guitar "Centaur" doesn't carry much, if anything, in great 6-string used basses.
