Battery Question

I'm about to buy my first bass with active electronics. Up until now I've always played passive basses. My question is this....When the bass is not being used, lets say it's in the case or on a stand, is the battery still being used(depleting it's charge) in the bass. And should you take the battery out when the bass is not being used? How long do the batteries usually last.

When you plug in the bass, the battery is being drained. When you unplug it, it is not getting drained. Leave the battery in all the time, it's not a big deal.

EMG pickups last from 2000 to 3000 hours. If the volume of the bass sounds distorted or is much quieter than normal, the battery is nearly dead.

On most basses, the battery is engaged and draining whenever the cord is plugged unto the output jack. Don't worry. I've played active basses since 1978 and change batteries once a year.

I had a Carvin LB76. Damn! I miss that bass. (could not play it well due to my "Sausage Fingers") Anyways----

The reasoning for my frequent battery changes were due to leaving the instrument cord plugged into the bass.

I'm going to keep it as a backup. It's a Squier Jazz. Great little bass. My new one's gonna be an Ibanez SR500 or 700.
