Battlebots

Robotics is something I quite enjoy. In high school, a handful of us AP/honors students managed to get money and sponsorship for FIRST Robotics competition. It was very fun, even though we lost. It only lasted one year, as we couldn't even come close to securing funds for another year... most of the fun money went to the football team.

Why oh why does anyone bother with the "axe arm" bot? It seems like those ones always lose to the armored flip-em beetle style bot.
I think I'd probably try and develop a robot around the principle of Bruce Lee's "inch punch" technique, just get real closelike and WATTT-TAAAHH! Also really good low-latency controls would be a must.

Last season I remember one that had a pneumatic pusher, I could be wrong about that though. It wouldn't be terribly hard to make something like that work. but it would be useless against horizontal spinners.

LOVE IT!

I was a huge fan of the original BattleBots and still have all of my old VHS recordings of every episode!

Mauler, Toro, Matador, and Whyachi were always my favorites. Too bad the Mauler guys didn't come back but I can still pull for the Toro/Matador guys with Bronco and of course Son of Whyachi.

My prediction? IF Son Of Whyachi stays fully functional I don't see it getting beat. I don't think it's flippable and it will destroy Tombstone this time...again that's IF it's fully functional.

And I was so glad to see Which Doctor get destroyed. Cool little bot but the people got on my nerves with their little outfits, and for some reason the people running BattleBots seem to love Which Doctor.

I'm thinking more of a spinner, but something that can leverage all of its weight into one little point, like a baltine hammer head, and does not need to spin around 360. Maybe a cattle bolt style puncher solenoid is stronger, I don't know. Man that would be fun to be on one of those design teams, running experiments to determine the relative strengths of robo weaponry

Build a bot with the cattle bolt thing and you can call it 'Anton'!

I was very surprised to see Witch Doctor go up in flames, but fun to watch.

Anybody watching Battlebots?
I love it. I remember when it was on as Robot Wars. Then the lawyers screwed it all up. I didn't know there had been a revival in 2015 and only stumbled across it accidently when I happen to catch episode 1.
This is some fun stuff. Totally victimless violence.

I love the show.

Is this like a Robot Wars reboot or something? Anyways, I loved RW back when it was on Comedy Central until everyone started using wedge shaped robots and it got stale. Hope they limit those somehow, it really killed the other show for me.

I remember two robot battling TV shows back in the late 90s: Robot Wars and Battlebots. This is a revival of Battlebots.
