Battlestar Galactica - TNS

Not only are many Cylons human, they're also clones. So one actor can play multiple Cylons as in the case of Baldur's lover and commander of the Caprica invasion force and Boomer/Sharon model on Caprica.

Well - that's what I meant - they're saving money by having fewer actors and special effects - also, the dark and jerky scenes mean less money on sets, as well!! ;)

...and didn't Sci-Fi have another "Alien Invasion" show(soon-to-be-a-series?)where the aliens looked human? IIRC, it was on about 3-4 weeks ago...there was a lottery to determine who would be tested/killed to cure the aliens, blah.
Anyway, I feel asleep on this one.

I like the intentionally jerky camera (at first, then it smooths out) when they are showing a ship moving during a jump (light speed travel) from a distance. That, along with the dead silence of the scene (since there is no sound in a vacuum) makes it feel more real. Like it's being filmed from another ship.

That was also done in 2001.
I recall, sitting there in the thetare as a young kid, thinking..."***, where's the sound"?

Yes! And the breathing sounds when they show stuff from Poole's (SP?) perspective when he's in the suit.

PS. BTW, the sequel:2010, was a very underrated movie.

2010 explained an awful lot & tied up a few loose ends. ;)
Didya notice Arthur C. Clarke's cameo as a Washington DC street cleaner(Roy Scheider is pleading his case to his boss on a park bench outside The White House).

2010, the book, was also very different from the movie...just as 2001, the book, was different from its movie. When Clarke decided to a sequel, he had a problem...does the sequel follow the book or the movie. More had seen the movie...so-
2010's book also had an Epilouge that was dated 20,001(IIRC). At this point, the Europans were beginning to sense they were not alone in the solar system. And the cycle of birth/re-birth continues...

I started but couldn't finish 2052. Anyone read that one?
;)

I have seen the original 3-hour pilot on DVD(it's even in the Columbia House DVD Club).
I was hoping that the season 1 DVD would include the whole pilot as well. Apparently, the pilot available on DVD is an edited version, not the one shown on SCI-FI. I hear it's actually a bit better in terms of flow, but I hear the one scene where 6 kills the baby is out, and I dug that scene because it established just how dismissive the Cylons were towards human life. Haven't heard anything about the whole pilot being put out, and at least the UK version of the whole season ain't got it...no reason to think the US version would have it I guess. :hmm:

Having seen 2001 as a teenager, I would probably really have been in the dark had I not read the book already.

I would not recognize Clarke.

2052?!? I was not aware of this.

Doh...I blew it.
I just searched B&N, it's 2061: The Third Odyssey.

Guess what; there's something called 3001: The Final Odyssey.

I did see 2001 as an 11-year old. I begged my mom to take me...anything about Space was cool, ya know. Anyway, we sat there for the first 30-40 minutes or so watching the apes going amok with no dialouge, etc. I was thinking we were watching the wrong movie. ;)

2010 is excellent, closes all the plot loopholes and dangling thoughts from 2001.

2061, eh...not too bad, but not AC's best work either.

I recommend avoiding 3001, sadly.

I think his best work are books such as "The Fountains of Paradise" and "Songs Of Distant Earth".

On topic: I haven't seen any of the BG series, but keep meaning to do so, guess I'll have to splurge on the DVD's of the first season and try to catch season 2.

The only Clarke book I've ever read is "Childhood's End" which is about the evolution of the human species to the next plane of existence. I thought it was really good and a good read for what I'd consider a short story (the book can't be more than 2 - 300 pages).

I know this is a Battlestar thread...but are there any Firefly fans out there? I mean, Serenity is out on the 30th, someone on here has to be as excited as I am! Sadly it got cancelled after 11 episodes, but it was really funny, had the good shaky camera movements, even with CGI...and out of focus camera work on the CGI which made it so friggen cool(back in 2002 when it was aired, so I believe before the new BG), and was just a quality show where no episode was bad at all.

And I've only caught a couple of the new BG episodes, dark, and good. I dig. Except Im not home much on fridays so I dont always get a chance to watch it. Picked up season 1 today, gunna start watching it soon.

If you like good SCI-FI, or even just good drama; you'll love it.

BIG fan... :hyper:

BSG has definitely become my favorite TV sci-fi show. I love the survivor counter at the beginning of every episode. I guess the Pegasus has roughly 1600 people onboard because that's roughly how much the counter jumped at the beginning of the last show. :) I can't wait for the new season to start in January! Woohoo! :hyper:
