Battlestar Galactica - TNS

Ha, I was going to mention that in my first post, that I'm not going to read any of this.
Although, being a fan of the original, I'll obviously know what's coming with Admiral Cain.

I also re-watched all of the original series recently, every Saturday night on Me TV.
but not all episodes of Galactica 80, you know where they were flying on motorbikes & caused a Cylon to malfunction with a microwave
The Return of Starbuck is the best out of that series.
I held off watching the new show for years because I wanted to watch the original first but I couldn't get through it. Too campy. To silly. The new one, as I understand it, completely rewrites the major story elements.

Girl Starbuck is interesting. She's a pretty girl but not generally my type, but there's something about her. She's so chaotic and wild. She's one of the best parts of the show. Edward James Olmos is excellent too. He's obviously playing the roll of the military leader of the entire human race but you really get the seriousness of what that would really mean from someone in that position.

Did you know that beautiful woman, Katee (Starbuck), is dating (or maybe engaged to) the dude who played Bones on JJ Trek, Karl Urban?

Hmmm, maybe not quite. ;)

That story arc is one of the best in the re-imaged series. (So many arcs it's hard to choose).

IIRC, the Pegasus story in the original series lasted 1 episode maybe..? This time not so little, which is a very, very good thing.

I finished the show yesterday. I was happy with the ending. It apparently got a lot of hate when it was on TV.
I guess I'm okay with All Along the Watchtower as the meaning of life. Could be worse.

And as you say Killed_by_Death, the Starbuck out is awesome. Add in what they did with Baltar, and the outstanding way James Callis portrayed him. The quirky, insecure, entitled genius Gaius Baltar...a lot of facets.

Just a few random things off the top of my head that I loved w/o giving anything away:

The "positions" Baltar would get caught in by others when he was having conversations/interactions with the cylon "6" in his head (Tricia Helfer).

Col. Tigh's laugh when he was drunk. <<That man (Michael Hogan) has more acting ability in one eye than a lot of actors have in their whole careers.

Grace Park...especially late in the series.

The backstories of some of the characters...really made me feel something of the profound sense of loss that they went through, and what made them into what they became. Excellent writing.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention...Fat Lee. :woot:

Yes. That gruff bastard was so hateable in the beginning but you love him at the end. And it's not as if he changed. He realizes some things but he's just as unpleasant throughout. The guy can act.

I enjoyed Blood & Chrome, but TBH I'm not digging the pilot episode of the new BSG.
That whole thing between Baltar & 6 just puts me off & I'm not even sure why.

I thought the nuclear blast was in or near the finalé of the series, but it went down almost in the first scenes.

Maybe I'm better off just watching the movie-length bits they've picked out for us, like The Plan, & Razor.

The Baltar/6 dynamic is a huuuge part of the story and continues throughout. It annoyed me in the beginning too but the relationship evolves a lot as the show goes on.

I can't recommend watching the movie length shows on their own. They're too tied into everything else going on.

I can't commit to watching over 50 hours of TV where I can't tell if what Baltar is seeing is real or imagined.
When it first aired I caught bits & pieces of it & can probably deduce what led up to the events in the movies.

or maybe they'll make me curious enough to watch the whole series...
Well, whether or not that 6 is imagined or not.....it doesn't really matter that much. She's more of a recurring character that's gone for long stretches of time. It's definitely not a show to watch unless you're all in.

"In his head"...and on his head.

I was watching that episode when it first aired...I'm sitting there, reading a book, watching the Sci-Fi Channel & the ol' Parental Warning shows up about some scenes may not be suitable for all audiences. Wow.
