At gigs I have a rep. for always having whatever is needed to fix an issue with the bands equipment, PA, etc. I once even had a spare belt when the rhythm guitar players pants wouldn't stay up.

Fast forward to this past Sunday. I am playing with the praise band at church and the service is being broadcast on TV as well as live streamed. We did the opening couple tunes and then we had an interlude while a young couple did the reading and lit the advent candles.........or tried to. The lighter that had been left for them refused to work. I keep hearing click, click, click....The pastor comes up to rescue them and he cant get it to work either. Meanwhile the woman is still reading and the clock is ticking. I handed my bass to the percussionist, walked off stage to where I had my coat hung up and grabbed my lighter. (I don't smoke but I always carry: a handkerchief, lighter, pocket knife and pistol) I walked down to the altar handed off the replacement lighter and went back to my spot on stage to the sound of chuckles from the congregation. Crisis averted.

Nice going!!!!!

I do the same thing.....same exact list of "always have" items (and I don't smoke either).

Then there's the "Box of Doom". A friend gave me a shipping hard case that he had bought a pallet of some years back. I have managed to fill it with all kinds of "what If" items. All the usual batteries, adapters, cables, small soldering iron and solder, heat shrink, picks, guitar strings, and even a spare bass head.

That box has every bit of a good reputation as I have around here. It's almost legendary. When asked if someone can go into the Box of Doom to get something (by the way it is painted all matte black inside and out, so it looks kind of like.....doom) my answer is usually (with one raised eyebrow) "I don't know. Ask the box." :eyebrow:

Usually that gets a laugh.... a very nervous and uncomfortable laugh.

Bass players being bass players. Love it!

Had a NYE private party a few years back. The song right before the first break, the guitar started shorting out. Sounded like an active bass when the batteries were dying. Finished the song. We immediately pull out the tool box and pulled off his pick guard. Sure enough, shorted wires on the jack. We had the thing soldered up and ready before the host could even come over and inquire if we were alright (you could really hear the guitar shorting out). Less than 5 minutes after the break, the guitar was fixed. Love it when a plan comes together.

I have got one of those boxes too. Its one of those silver tool boxes you can get from harbor freight. I've got a little bit of everything in there.

Careful guys. Let's not go there. I have strong opinions about this myself but gun talk at TB is off limits.....with good reason. It never ends well. Not lecturing.... just..... cautioning. ;)
