To the OP: Why not just keep the band together, and use your existing material with a new singer?

You can't be a hired gun if you're not getting paid! Doing the work & not getting anything for it is just being a sucker.
++ to Jive's comment: Find out who the "owner" is & what's the structure. That's something I always ask at first auditions. There are some people I won't play with unless I'm paid in cash, up front, no matter how "good" they are.

Singer/keyboardist wrote most of the material. I contributed some (bass lines, vocal harmonies, arrangement ideas), but he was the primary songwriter (including all the lyrics).

You and the other 2 guys are just hired guns. To be USED at his discretion, and convenience. What is too bad is that you were not getting paid as a hired gun. Since he didn't call you back as you stated earlier, it would seem that paying musicians does not fit into HIS plans.
Exactly. And not being paid to be a hired gun is no longer in my plans.
I;m right there with you brother - resident geek. Actually thinking for any next band I should try being band leader. I'm a bit "saw off their head and then talk to it on the table" kind of guy so it might not work. But then again, people always know where they stand with me and I have both legal and business experience/skills.I will never be in a band again, where I don't own the Domain Name and have control over the FB. I spend more time on band related issues, than practicing. I am a business man first and bass player second. I always play with people more talented than myself musically. They know their role, I know mine.
