15 years ago if I told you bad was made from rice you would have spit it out.
Bud isn't quality, it's mass produced mass market beer for people who like to swill and get drunk.

They control the market not because of quality but because of laws and rutheless tactics.

For many years there (BY LAW) were only 3 distributors across the entire country. Bud Miller and Coors. It was a monopoly basically. It wasn't until Sam Adams had trouble getting their beer distributed that the laws were contested and changed so small breweries could get distributed.

Budweiser then in control of the market starts giving stores ultimatums that if they want to sell the beer they get to decide shelf space. Making as many crappy products and possible combinations of 6 packs, 12 packs, lime beer, tomato beer, cans , bottles, aluminum bottles...whatever it takes to hog ALL the shelf space. Since they are the major distributor and make all the money and have all the advertising (brainwashing) you HAVE to have their product in the store or you shoot yourself in the foot.

And your only other two choices were miller and coors.

So you don't want to give bud all the shelf space, then they pull the product and you lose half your customers. Your business tanks because you can't get any other beer in there becasue small guys can't distribute unless they give Bud an unfair price for doing it. Which makes it hard for them to grow, lobby congress to change laws, etc...

This coming from the guy that equates beer to soda for low class and only drink 'fine liquor'? If someone gave you a blind test of 2 glasses of beer I guarantee you would not be able to tell.

I saw a taste test vid awhile back where miller, coors and bud drinkers would know 'their' beer anywhere. They were giving a cup of each and they ALL got it wrong.

Everything tastes better out of a bottle. At one time you could only get pop/soda in a bottle including Coca Cola. They all tasted better than modern tinned pop. They also tasted better than modern pop/soda in plastic bottles. Granted Coke changed it's formula later on but I'll still take bottled pop over tinned.

Hard liquor used to only come in glass bottles. And that tastes better than hard liquor out of the plastic bottles they replaced glass with in many instances.

Wine also tastes better out of a bottle and if they put wine in a tin I'm never buying it.

Modern methods my Butt. Tinned crap is tinned crap. Plastic is plastic. Bring all the science you want but stuff out of glass tastes better.

In "ye olde days" in Europe and England beer WAS the drink of the lower and middle classes..if they could afford beer at all, although it might not be exactly the concoction we drink today.

At least they didn't have to drink it out of a tin.

Any of you out there tried mixing different things with beer just to see what it tastes like?

Yesterday I tried a 50/50 mix of Ginger Ale and Coors Light......pretty good...

I was with a bunch of guys at Ft Knox and all the place had was bud light. I love microbrews so I had to add something. Next thing you know, everyone was doing it. It's great!

What was it? They sold nachos and they would add sliced Jalapeño peppers. Throw a little juice and any number of peppers to taste and it's pretty darned good.

It does to bud light what seven up does to Two Buck Chuck.

Bud light isn't awful either, though I prefer coors light. There are beers I'll drink if they're around and there are beers I'll go out to buy specifically or order in a bar. There are very few beers that I think fully suck regardless of the situation.

Lately though I prefer the stronger 8%+ beers. Just more efficient.

I've never liked Miller beer or Miller lite. I liked Coors beer when it was unavailable east of the Mississippi, many moons ago. I think it was the mystique that was the attraction, rather than the beer.

This is what first started my beer/ale drinking career, around 16 years of age. I thought it was pretty bad, but it had the advantage of being only 7 oz., so it was tolerable.

Back on topic: beer mixes well with sausages, so I wonder how well sausages would mix with beer... like a celery stick in a bloody mary...

When I did this, the bratwurst got so plump and juicy with beer, that they literally started peeing out streams of beer, while they were being grilled. The flavor was amazing!

You need a good cheese sauce recipe, though. The recipe that I tried was just cheddar, cream cheese, and beer. It tasted great, but it solidified easily, and no matter how much I mixed, I could not smooth out the unappetizing looking chunks of cream cheese.

Not beer, but last night I asked the girl to pick up a bottle of Riesling. She got a cheapy bottle that was cloyingly sweet! I mixed a good sized glass with a few shots of Milagro Reposado tequila, and it was actually pretty tasty!

Some of the major beer makers have been putting things in beer just to see if we would buy it.

Things like lime. No thanks.

Beer is an aquired taste. Many of the strong beers like Ballantine Ale don't seem to be around anymore.

I can almost simulate some of the light beers out there now by mixing a half shot of vodka in some seltzer.

The regional beers like Ballantine, Arrow 77, National, Carling Black Label and others that actually tasted very close to their German ancestors have been out marketed by bland tasting watered down products. It's a shame but Its happening to fruits and vegetables too. The flavor is being bred out in favor of less seeds, more resistance to disease and longer shelf life

Where I live "tinned" is used an expression to describe anything that comes in a can be it aluminum or whatever.
Nobody has any idea what things taste like to me.

There are some things in life to be enjoyed at the perception of the beholder. These things that contribute to the human enjoyment of life and of being human.
As far as modern scientific packaging methods go or any scientific evaluation of perception or taste ...well, the scientists can stuff it.

I'm going out on my porch tomorrow morning and I'm going to sit there in the sunlight (Sunlight???...scientists say it's bad for you..too bad, I'm doing it anyway.) and read my hardcopy book (What ??...a real paper book?..scientists say that's a waste of tree and you should use Kindle etc on a tablet. hmmmm...trees are a renewable resource but the sand they used to make computers and tablets isn't and there is a growing shortage of that type of sand.)
After that I 'll read my real newspaper (What??...more tree paper again??...scientists won't like you!!!... see reason in "book" sentence).
After that I might have a coffee with lots of cream in it ( Cream????......scientist say too much fat in cream) and then I'll have a bowl of hot chowder ( Hot??..scientists say hot liquids can cause cancer.....Too bad. Mankind has been drinking hot beverages since Adam and Eve so kiss my butt).
And top that off with a nice toasted well-buttered Kaiser bun ( Butter??... scientists say butter is bad...too much fat. Again...kiss my butt.)
Later I might have a drink or two ( Alcohol???....scientists say alcohol gives you liver/ colon cancer......KMB..)

After that I might watch some t.v. (T.V.?????!!!....don't you know it slows your brain activity?....Too bad. I'm in no rush and I'm not going anywhere.KMB.)

I might go to the art gallery day after to look at Picasso paintings. There'd better not be a scientist standing over my shoulder telling me all about the shortcomings of Cubism or I will go postal.

I might drink a beer after that and it will be bottled. Because I like bottled. Not canned.

The good things in life are meant to be enjoyed by one's perception and muse. A large part of our live's enjoyment is based on what we hold near and dear to us and how it makes us feel.

Great writings, great books, great music, great food etc etc etc. all to be savored and enjoyed at one's own speed, free of externally-generated paranoia

Yep. My BIL makes what he calls a "Skip And Go Naked". Luckily we've never gotten to that point! Anyway, in a pint glass add an ounce of simple syrup, a shot of good gin, and top off w/a lager. Sounds horrible, but tastes pretty darn good!

+1 , though personally I would make a roux, and have jalapenos in the sauce, and garlic - at least for a start.

I suppose I should say something on topic. I've mixed beer with stuff before, coors lite and cranberry juice is a good way to make it palatable. Beer with Clamato can be alright if you hit it with some hot sauce. Also, those who think we never mixed beer with anything should look into the history of braggot - some say that an ale made with heather tips would be mixed with mead to make the original braggot. Sounds like a mix to me. I don't really tend to go out of my way to mix beer with things though, I think it's been at least a year since I've thought of mixing anything.
