Beer and..?

Discussion in 'Off Topic [BG]' started by ZenG, Jul 3, 2016.

  1. Any of you out there tried mixing different things with beer just to see what it tastes like?

Yesterday I tried a 50/50 mix of Ginger Ale and Coors Light......pretty good...

I was in a band that used to put grenadine into Coronas.

Some of the major beer makers have been putting things in beer just to see if we would buy it.

    Things like lime. No thanks.

Beer is an aquired taste. Many of the strong beers like Ballantine Ale don't seem to be around anymore.

I can almost simulate some of the light beers out there now by mixing a half shot of vodka in some seltzer.

  8. Fruit depending on the beer.
    Blue Moon-orange slice.
    Boulevard Wheat-lemon slice.

I also find that some beers pair well with chocolate, but I don't add it directly to the beer.
Tall Grass Buffalo Sweat, which is an oatmeal cream stout goes good with a bite of dark chocolate!

Some people put Clamato in their beer.

    I think it's gross.

Yep. My BIL makes what he calls a "Skip And Go Naked". Luckily we've never gotten to that point! Anyway, in a pint glass add an ounce of simple syrup, a shot of good gin, and top off w/a lager. Sounds horrible, but tastes pretty darn good!

I tried it recently. I like Clamato and I like beer. The combination was...not good. And the subsequent vomiting was pretty horrendous.

If the beer needs to be mixed, then you need to get a better beer.

I think the only thing I have found that mixes well with beer is stuff like chicken wings or steaks.

The only beer mix I can tolerate is Guinness with a shot of espresso. Love it.

That sounds like it could work. And that's really just about complementing flavors.

I've never understood the concept behind drinks like red bull and vodka, or whatever. Mixing a stimulant and a depressant. Doesn't. Seem like a good idea.

I like to mix up a good beer with a one hitter.
  18. I've had beer milkshakes, on occasion. (Beer with vanilla ice cream.) The flavor is just plain odd, and I don't have words to describe it. It's certainly interesting.

I was at a party recently, and they made a punch using:

6 pack Rickards Red,.....its a basic Canadian 5% red ale
    1 375ml bottle of Vodka
    1 can concentrated lemonade.

Not only was it delicious and refreshing, it packed a good wallop as well.
  20. That's something like 8.5% ABV, if I estimated correctly. That's equivalent to a good strong beer.
