"Beginner" Bass Guitars - Under 550CND

Alright. So here is where I stand right now. It is really hard to find used amps and what not. I have seen a "few" but nothing all too special (I checked kijiji and craigslist). If i get a 200w+ amp, I will have to spend under 300 bucks on the Bass. Ibanez fits into that range. I have a soft spot for Ibanez. I own an Ibanez 6 string guitar, and I love it to death. For the 400CND I payed for it, I was blown away. I have played an ibanez bass and I liked it. I think ibanez has some great starter bass stuff.

I will check out that amp godbody. Thanks everyone for all the help so far. I really appreciate it.

Schecter Stiletto Custom 4. Can't recommend that bass enough.

The general rule is 300 watts minimum for a bass amp in rock situations.

I agree with this statement. An inexpensive 300w to look at would be this:

Its a Behringer, which generally gets panned around here, but I love my Behringer head that I use with my stack. You could do a lot worse for a first bass amp. It may not be a "true" 300 watts, but its probably the cheapest option that you'll find, and it should work reasonably well for the type of music you plan on playing.

Solution: sell the guitar. Guitars kinda suck anyway. :ninja:

I've owned two of those amps and they're hit and miss. The first one sounded good and the second one (which I bought used) was not so good. Buy it new and it should be alright for you. The power amp is 300w but the speaker is only rated for 200w - you effectively get around 200w out of it.

I have a ESP LT-154 and really enjoy playing with it. The neck is solid and has a really nice feel. After years of playing the regular guitar I switched to bass and picked up the ESP. It was much easier to play on than my firends pbass knock off. I think it was due to the fact the neck is failry narrow (relative) and the ESP has a 24 fret neck. The spacing was a little easier to hit. My LT-154 is active - I believe they all are (I could be wrong).

Huh, odd that its a 200w speaker, but I guess that's what you should expect from those wacky Germans. So for the budget conscious (like the OP), Behringer amps-yes, cabinets and such-no.

Hey OP, you sell that guitar yet? :D Just get a used stack, I see tons of em in my town.

I don't know about the speakers in the Behringer cabs, but the 15" woofer in their 300w 115 combo is only rated for 200w. Why they couldn't put a speaker that was rated for 300w in there I don't know - too cheap, I guess.

It's an okay combo for $299, but I'd much rather spend another $20 for the Acoustic B200 115 combo. The B200 is 200w but it's loud and the EQ section is great! Great sounding combo amp. I'm seriously considering selling my SWR Workingpro 12 and getting myself a B200. I like the sound better.

One bass that you might wanna consider that's decent quality and well priced is the Epiphone EB-0. It's a short scale bass but from the ones I've messed around with, it seems like it's got a pretty good tone. There's one from Steve's for a good price. Good enough that you can get yourself a good amp/cab setup.

The prices I saw were:
Behringer 115-$259
Acoustic B200-$349

I'd still definitely try to come up with that $90, but if that's the budget breaker, then I guess that's that.

I can't seem to find someone that carries those Acoustic B200's anywhere in Canada! (Also I think there is a supply problem. 2 Major online USA retailers show it coming in on the 30th of march). There isn't a whole lot for sale in terms of amps in my area (or surrounding area). Hmm.

Well... At least you can enjoy all that health care, eh? :p

What two retailers didn't have them?

Keep looking around, I'm sure you can find somebody who ships to you.

Ah, but the shipping will be quite expensive. International + something that heavy? I might as well look for a better amp for the same price around here :p

And the retailers are Guitar Center and uuhh...Musician's Friend.

Would that be a decent amp? If he still has it... (over a month since he posted that).

I'd definitely go used and local on the amp. Be patient and you'll find the right one. Give it a month of paitient looking and you'll find it.

I might go out this weekend to a few guitar shops and see what kind of used amps they got. Still gotta sell my acoustic guitar :p.

Everyone has been really helpful. Can't thank you guys enough! :hyper:

I might have to jump on that. If i can find a good used bass amp I think that would be a great setup. :)

Lamusic.ca They MIGHT have a deal but be careful, i saw an SR305 going for around $600 something. (????????) If you do go through them, look around on the net for a cheaper price. They price beat, and if its over 200, shippings free :D

Buying new in Canada is just not worth it. And right now, Buying new and shipping from the states isnt worth it. 60 bucks shipping, and depending on the item its about 50 for customs. Not to mention our fail dollar.

Im not sure if anyone said it yet, but for amps, and even Bass wise, PEAVEY.
You can get one of those old Peavey 115 combo which will shake the walls (of your bedroom :P). These can be had for around 100 bucks if you wait.

That leaves you with around 450. You could get those new Squiers. OR you can find an older Ibanez. Most of the Soundgears have SLICK necks. Since you playED guitar, these necks will make for an easier transition.

I've also seen a few Deans on CL and kijijijiji for 450.

Anyway good luck with this!
