Stewie, that post cracked me up!! I am an FAA licensed pilot, and yet I do not own my own airplane (I joined a flying club, and the club owns a fleet of planes). Kudos to you for having the financial resources to own your own plane! Good job, good sir!

to the "this is bad that guitars just hang on the wall.." thing..

i get the point- cool guitars should be played. okay.

but is there really a shortage of guitars..?

any model of any guitar you want can be had on ebay pretty much any day of the week, for a fair-market price.

the other side of this idea is that while those guitars may be just sitting for now, eventually someone else will get they're hands on it- so he's just preserving them for future generations.

I remember walking into a music store last year before I even plucked a note on the bass. I was ready to spring for a brand new Schecter. But because the guy scoffed at me, I took my business to a smaller shop where the guy sat me down and had me plucking out Smoke on the Water prior to my purchase. I left with a used Squier & a month's worth of lessons lined up.

One of the joys of being middle aged, you can buy good gear. I have a friend, that bought a Fender Select Pbass as his first instrument.

Even if it just ends up on his wall, it still looks better than some random art :)

Good for you! My parents didn't have the money to buy me a good bass and I always bought my own, but I hate some people's attitude that you shouldn't buy your kids expensive gear. If they can afford it and you appreciate it, congratulations. I wonder how may kids gave up music because their parents bought them some sh!tty unplayable instrument?

Maybe he sees them as art or buys them for investment. Kind of late to the party for the latter, but as far as being art, it's hard to argue that about many instruments, IMO.

I think the best part is that the customer dropped 6K in an independent music store and not the local GC. Most of the folks I know that are still running independents would jump for joy seeing that kind of sale come their way.

I played in a group in the 60's, got married.. left the band... had four great kids.. did my time in the kitchen industry for for 40+ years... retired at last in January, gave myself a great amp set up and just bought an Epiphone EB-O to go with my Epipi Les Paul special. I am in the process of Modding the EB-O with a Dimarzio and a Hipshot bridge because there is no way I will pay what a vintage EB-O like the one that was stolen in the early 70's goes for these days.... Us old guys just have to wait sometimes.... but I am digging it now~!
