Beginning sentences with "so"....

Does this drive anyone else up a wall?

"So I went to my friend's house."
"So I crashed my car into a ditch."

I see it all the time on TB too.

"So, I got a new amp today."

I don't know if it's just me, but it's one of my biggest pet peeves (along with using U in place of you, 4 in place of for, et cetera; also, misusing its and it's; and lastly, the there/their/they're paradox).

I think so is just a sloppy way of using a more appropriate "first word" such as:

Therefore, I bought a new amp today.

Accordingly, I crashed my friends car into a ditch.

However, if nothing preceeds the sentence, it really has no place. So, I will shutup! ;)

If people would vary it up a little bit, I wouldn't mind. But every sentence doesn't need to start with a "so," "say," "well," et cetera.

I don't know what bothers me so much about it. To me, it's the same as saying "like" all the time, or using "seriously" in every sentence.

I guess i am one of those people with spelling numbers so's, its etc. Why? mostly becouse i am unable to use correct spelling/grammar. and i've got an excuse! i speak dutch! picket up english at school a bit

I see the annoyance. Infact, I see a multiplied annoyance as to me (a brit) it's yet another spawn-of satan misued add on word thats swam its' way accross the pond to us and set up camp within the vocabularary of middle class teenagers.

It gets even more multiplied (I'm talking to the power of) when the 'o' is extended and when a few 'likes' are glued on to the feeble attempt at a sentance.

Ps - these are not meant as racist comments..

I really dont get upset over the way someone types a post,as far as using the word so in the beggining of a sentence ,thats does not seem to fit the way i speak i usually type how i speak,it doesnt bother me at all,how anyone chooses to type out there messages
