Although many stereo power amps do support the use of just one channel if you only have one speaker cabinet, it is suggested that you first confirm with the manufacturer to be sure.

On most equipment, low-impedance XLR outputs are designed to ignore +48V phantom power should it exist on the line. To be honest, I've never tested that theory with the Bass V-AMP Pro and seeing how trouble-free it's been for me for years now, I'll let you guys experiment and report back to us all. :D

i have asked the behringer support regarding the issue with the phantom power, alas no reply from them up to today:scowl:

i also emailed thomann in germany where i bought the device and they came back to me within 12 hours. their tech support says that:

"it is is no problem for the v-amp to be connected to an active 48V phantom power. it is possible that a faint hum is audible when the power is on."

i just picked up a V-amp yesterday, and so far i'm loving the sounds i get out of it through headphones, but now i'm a bit stuck...

one band i've been playing with has one song where need some overdrive. through headphones, i've set up a pretty dirty sound, using drive 2 through the SVT amp.

when i play it through my bass amp, the distortion is gone. a nice clean round tone comes out. i've tried plugging into the instrument input, and into the effects return. no change. i tried changing the config, too (S1 and L3, at least).

if it helps, i'm using a mexi jazz with 62 reissue pickups in it, and my amp is a yorkville Bassmaster 200T. it's a 200w combo with 2 10" speakers and a piezo tweeter.

any thoughts?

If the headphones are set to a cabinet sim, it's going to react differently if you're live sound is coming through something different. I don't know a lot about that, I pretty much always practice live. But if you're playing through live and not getting the effect, might be a case where headphones (especially if they're inexpensive) might be distorting sooner, and sounding dirty just because of the speakers in the headphones. Try one of the default tones that has a little distortion and compare the sound through your cab and your headphones. But if you're building a tone for playing live, I'd definitely do it with the cabinet you're using, then switch to headphones for practicing if needed.

I was wondering if there's a thread or another resource anyone knows of specifically on building tones on the v-amp? I know if we play a cover song (we're playing Hysteria and Schism at our next show) I try to emulate the original tone as much as possible. I've seen a few posts through here about tones, but it would be great if there was an area JUST on tones, and JUST for the v-amp. BTW, I think I've got fairly close on those two sounds, if anyone else is struggling.

welcome to the v-amp world.

i never use the unit with headphones but did once and was stunned by the sound difference. first, i thought it was the headphones, who are of quite good quality that sounded so different from what comes out of my cab.

i think the phones out bypasses the cab sim of the v-amp if one is chosen. since i don't use the phones i forgot about it but i think it can be somehow adjusted. i don't know how though.

i wondered about the higher range, but thought that the headphones should have the cab sim, which should do something similar to my amp's speakers.

in any case, i figured since i bought the unit used, i should change the battery. i did, and performed a factory reset, and then spent more time setting it up using the amp, rather than headphones.

sounds good now. loads of drive. i think i may have had the split on the drive set too high, so it was lost to the amp.

looking forward to really playing with this thing as i've never been thrilled with the sound of my amp.
