It may be strange, but I experience no problems at all using the built-in tuner of the V-amp-pro. My settings : GAIN at 3 hours ( because I want a clean , non distorted sound ), VOLUME 12 hours, MASTER most of the time 12 hours.
( My bassguitar : Ibanez SR-700 with active bartolini pick-ups )

Hi all,

As earlier mentioned, this weekend I have tested my bridge-cable.
A major earthquake ! The CROWN XLS 1500 channel-1 knob at just 3 hours, and the walls are shaking. :hiding:

Something different :
Don't you think it's a pity that the V-amp allows us just to choose ONE effect at the time ? E.g. I would like to use the st. chorus combined with a littlebit of ultrabass, but sadly I have to choose one of these effects.

Does anyone know if the "LINE 6 bass pod" is capable of chaining effects ? ( like chained stompboxes )

@Koos_bass, thanks for your reply. Yeah, active pickups probably wouldn't hurt. My bass is passive, but it's output is hot enough (my previous Korg multifx unit handled the low A without any problems).

I will mess around with it some more, but I will probably end up getting a cheap tuner and fixing it that way.

As far as it goes about not being able to have more than one effect in your chain, I dont mind this too much. V-amp is first and foremost a preamp, not an effects unit. I only use a bit of chorus or delay when recording some demos, so this is not a big issue for me anyway.

Hi all,

Does anyone use the denoiser of the V-amp ?
I want to try this feature as a "noise gate" , to eliminate the little unwanted sounds.

Does anyone have experience with the denoiser ?
Especially : What is the function of the EXPANDER, SENSITIVITY, RANGE knobs in the program ?

Hello...I've been here before. I was having serious problems with my VAP cutting out after about half an hour. Spluttered, then went super quiet.
We (I mean the good users of this thread - and especially CharlieC) tried a number of things to thwart my rising pessimism. I'd got down to 'throw it away' mode. I decided, in my own tenacious way (read "poor") to have one last stab. I purchased a new eprom (1.09) to see if that was the issue. I think it was.
I'm in the middle of testing right now, so we're about an hour in and no sign of problems.
I'm going to give it another hour or so, to see what transpires.
If this is the fix, I'll be a happy Thud. If not, I'm not out a massive amount.
I like this unit. If it works, I will need to only upgrade my cab for a killer rig.
If it doesn't...I'll be back to do more moaning and groaning. :)

...and...so far so good. Re-acquainting myself with this little box of good sounds. I definitely need a new cab (other threads for that...) to really bring out the beef this thing can handle. I'm thinking an Avatar NEO 4x10 to go with the Carvin DCM1000.

Next test is to hook up some effects sends/returns to see if it will behave itself (I still don't trust it 100% after the previous heartache), and a 'factory reset' just gives me the willies since it's behaving right now...

Other than that, I'm back in love. ;)
Dwelling somewhere between the 'new' SVT and the 'classic' SVT sound with just a little of the deep dialed in to give some "oomph!"
Jazz with SD Hot Stack Jazz p'ups and new roundwounds is very clean and grindy, and the Precision with not-new roundwounds is thumping. I even like that British 70s patch...lordy, lordy!

Anyways, Charlie, I think I'll take that number - even though I don't post them. Stealth, me.

So now I have been trying out my new V-amp with power amp and speaker. First I set the v-amp up as per CharlieC startup guide. I am running the v-amp through my Ampeg SVT4, using the power amp only and it is bridged to a Ampeg Svt410 HLF. My main bass is an active Musicman Sterling with double humbuckers.

I am an Ampeg man. I have a SVT4, a SVP preamp (same as the SVT2) and also a SVT300, 300 watts all tube poweramp (same as SVT2). My main speaker is a SVT410 HLF so my references are my ampegs.

The first impression is that it sounds very good. I think that the SVT, bassman, mesa boogie and a few more sounds are very good. The STV I would say is perfect for me. It is my sound. If I compare the v-amp to my SVT4 or my Ampeg SVP preamp with SVT300 power amp it is so much clearer and cleaner at the same time as it is very dirty and rough in a very nice way. Difficult so explain. The SVT4 and the SVP is always a bit muddy. That I am playing does not always came out clear. With the v-amp all is clear even if it is very dirty if you know what i mean.

I just cut down a bit on the presens to get some if the thret noise away and thats all.

I had to cut down the input gain to the standard setting as +12 from CharlieC tips was a bit to much as my bass gives a very strong signal.

I did try to connect it up to the PA too just for fun and it sounds good. Might need a bit of getting used to but it is good. The compressor works okay. I will play around with it a bit more to find my settings but I think that my EBS compressor pedal will go in the bin. I am not 100% impressed with the chorus yet but i did not have time to play with it so much yet. I am sure that i will find a acceptable setting.

All in all I can say the it is the best bass sound the I have every had. Maybe maybe maybe my all time favorit, the old musicman HD150 that I had 20 years ago sounded better but I am not sure as it is difficult to compare 20 years ago with today.

What I do know is that V-amp is very light. Now I am going to get a new low weight power amp, maybe a Inuke to save some weight.

As I see it for the moment, it is a big chance that my ampeg fleet will be on Ebay soon. After all why would I like to carry 50kg of SVT2 or 25 kg of SVT4 when 4 kg of behringer sounds better.

Use the twin Hosa cable as I recommended since it will handle both mono (bridged) and stereo setups.

Mono (bridged) would imply that the FAME amp is capable of this and you are using only one speaker cabinet. Stereo would imply you are using more than one speaker cabinet and using both sides of the FAME amp.
