I did, but the GK preamp is what I want. It worked when I bypassed the the preamp section of the V-amp, but at that point, I use effects so sparingly that it wasnt worth the weight in my rack.

BTW, I actually find the "British 80's" (Trace Elliot) model a little more pleasing than the "White Panel" (GK) model on the V-AMP for "that type" of sound.

A good DI box will run about $149 and for $20 more you can get the whole farm in a bigger box with the V-AMP

Haha thanks! Like I said, i still use it for recording and I even take it with me when i know i'm only using the house gear or just running straight in. I think it's a great unit and I'm very pleased with mine.

Exactly. I'm not sure if it's the 4x12 modeling on the DI or what, but this thing really sounds great through a PA. In my experience, even my nice BSS audio DI didn't sound as good as my v-amp.

In non-bass news, my harmonicas sound nice through the FX. I use a Bottle O' Blues mic I put the drive on 3 (Pro Co Rat), some reverb and bliss. Oh, and rotary effect sound really cool with a harmonica.

On bank 1, I have created some presets general playing, slower ballad-like songs, faster thumpy songs, etc. 1E is the Overdrive preset.

I am discovering, though, that tuner feature is wonky. I've made sure to turn off effects, nooned the EQ and tried different levels of gain, but the note being perceived is all over the place. My Korg tuner doesn't have this problem with my bass or guitar, but the V-Amp does.

Thoughts, Charlie?

Once the Master Input gain is optimized for your bass, the tuner should then operate normally (i.e. steady and reliably.)

Although I have not confirmed this, I believe the tuner is fed the pre-DSP signal so that any preamp or effects settings are ignored and should have no effect on the tuner.

I bought the v-amp pro 2 days ago, i've found my sound (on the L1 mode ->PC ->phones) and my question is: how should i connect it on live stage, since i have Ampeg SVT-3.The manual is horrible or i'm dumb?I want to send balanced signal WITHOUT cab sim to the send/return of the Ampeg (thus i can bypass Ampeg's preamp?) and balanced signal WITH cab sim to the PA.Which mode and outputs should i use?

p.s. i wanna share my dream sound, that i've made using this underrated jewel!Fits for thrash/death metal/heavy perfectly (from me):

I'm using Warwick Thumb 5 BO '98, active mode,both p'ups,flat EQ, Rotosound Swing Bass 66 (steel).

Amp: Black Twin (yes, under "keyboard" section )
No drive
No effects
Cab sim: 12 (Leslie 760, 1x15 + HF-driver)
Gain: 1-2 (o'clock)
Lvl: 8-9
Bass: 3
Mid: 3
Treble: 3-4
Deep: 2
Pressence: 10-11
Comp: 1-2
Attack: 12-1
Noise gate: as needed (i use 10)

Check it out!Killer for finger style, for pick is a little bit of harsh on the highs...

edit: I have problems with te tuner too, i tried to tweak the gain with no result - it goes mad on the both sides ot the E and B strings.

For this I would suggest setting the V-AMP's Operating Mode to L3 (Live 3)

then connect the Right, unbalanced 1/4" out to your Ampeg's EFFECT RETURN (to provide tone without the mic'd cab effect)

then connect the balanced XLR/s to the PA system mixer (to provide tone with the ULTRA-G cab sim)

And final question - does the connection to EFFECT RETURN of my Ampeg means, that i only use the master volume on it, bypassing the preamp?

ULTRA-G is the name Behringer uses for their XLR-out cab sim technology designed by Juergen Rath

ULTRA-G is in effect on both XLRs only when in operating modes S3, L2, L3

I do not believe ULTRA-G tries to simulate any particular size of speaker, but just the fact that it's a mic'd speaker

When in L3 as I advised, the global mic'd cabinet sims are disabled so that your 1/4"-outs will be best suited for a real amp + speakers that do not require the mic'd cabinet sim

The XLRs will receive the same signal as the 1/4", plus the addition of the ULTRA-G

Using the EFFECT RETURN, or better yet, POWER AMP IN (if available) on your Ampeg should mean you only need to use the V-AMP's Master Volume knob

I used the Bass V-Amp Pro for the first time live today. During Saturday’s practice, I was using that 2-1/2 hours to tweak the gain, EQ, compression and volume levels. I bypassed the amp/cab emulation since I am plugged into a big ol’ Peavey head and 4x10 cab. My fretless sounds really nice through the setup.

Tip #19: Classic Clean

If you follow other TalkBass threads you may have heard about "Hi-Fi" type of bass amplifiers, such as the Genz Benz "Shuttle" line. These amps do not impart a specific type of brand-coloring to your tone, but instead simply amplify the true sound of your bass, in a good way.

The Behringer Bass V-AMP features 16-distinct bass amp models to choose from, but none advertised to be based specifically on a "Hi-Fi" model.

Un-officially, of course, I have found that such a model indeed exists under the KEYBOARD range of amp models that the V-AMP offers. The 32nd amp model, "Classic Clean", in fact produces this "Hi-Fi" sound very well. Combine this model with a good bit of Compressor, that the V-AMP also has on-board, and get ready for one of the best clean tones I've ever heard! Be sure to dial in a little DEEP knob as well and you will surely get a one-way ticket to Slap City

Give it a try and you may agree with me.

Note: To get to amp models 17-32, as well as to gain access to the DEEP parameter, you need to hold down the [TAP] button while turning the AMP and BASS knobs respectively

The Bass V-Amp Pro worked very well for its first Sunday service. The music leader gave his thumbs up approval, liking the additional control I had over my sound. The V-Amp Pro is now my official, all-the-time, FX box for bass. It also works great with my guitar and my harmonica.

I am not a berr-----hater, its just after being a reader of TB, I avoid their products. I have read that maybe their power amps aren't all that bad and for the price and in a pinch I guess I would gamble on some of their products.....Good pre-amps cost $$$. I have the Tech 21 Sansamp PSA1.1 but that costs as much as a half stack bass rig. It is a great rack product but not for everybody. Next down in $$$ are some of the Line6 products and also the Boss bass pedal GT 10B. I feel that it's better to wait save your money and buy a proven product rather than be dissappointed...ImO.....

Proven by whom? People that don't own Behringer, yet publicly diminish it? Or they have a friend, of a friend, of a friend that had a product fail? Or, by people who own and actually use their products?

My Bass EQ pedal hasn't died yet in almost 2 years of ownership. The used Bass V-Amp Pro I bought was in use by the previous owner for over a year at gigs.

So, actually, you have given into the Behringer hate. I have a Boss DS-1 that crackles and hums like nobody's business. It is being retired. Do I have justification now for dissing now on all Boss products for being crap? Or do I simply have one bad sample in a sea of thousands of samples that work just fine?
