CarlieC, I see on your pic you have a crown xls 1000 drive core amp driving the cab. How do you like it? I have always been a GK RB head fan, but I have been toying with getting a stereo power amp and two 2x12 cabs to take advantage of the stereo output of the V-Amp pre. I also am a crown power amp fan but have no experience with the newer stuff (ran a sound company for years with crown macro amps all around). I am seeing 8 pounds for the 1000 and 400w per side into 4 ohms. With 12's do you think I would need the next size up?
Crown power amps are well known for their quality and dependability. I've owned previous model Crowns over the years and was completely satisfied until "Class D" technology came along. Suddenly, the notion of carrying a 30-pound power amp seemed ridiculous. Crown introduced their DriveCore series soon after "Class D" began taking off and I again bought a Crown. Free shipping, no tax, 45-days to try it, and a 15% off coupon code later, I had me a Crown XLS 1000 for $265 and the thing is ABSOLUTELY KILLER! -- Plenty of power, dead-quiet fan, runs cool all night long, fits shallow-depth racks, and weighs 8-pounds. I could not be happier. I highly recommend it and suggest the next model up only if you are driving two 8x10 fridges or if money is no object. The XLS 1000 is more than sufficient for most bass rigs IMHO.
