Behringer Bass V-AMP Pro

Guilty as charged! My gain is maxed and that's a fact, Jack :-)
I would too but if you heard my bass you would know why I don't. Even with the master gain knob set at 12 o' clock on the V-AMP, if I boost the bass on the onboard preamp of my bass it gets loud, distorted, and muddy. I haven't seen the clip light go off on the V-AMP yet but I bet I could make it really easy.

As is well known, the V-AMP's built-in tuner is a little hard of hearing, so as long as it's working well for you then your master input gain is set just right!

Cheers!

Since you have an actual cab, you don't need cab simulation. Cab simulation is handy for someone like me where I play my V-Amp through the Synagogue's house system.

So what's the point of having a Hi-Fi cab? A hi-fi cab, specially a 3 way design like the fEARfuls will sound somewhat like a PA (right?) and thus need the cab to sound just right.

Well, think about what a cab is, be it a Bass spec'd box attached directly to your bass amp, or the PA system...it is a box with speakers making sound. In a gigging setting, you are your own monitor/output, or maybe your output is mic'd for the house PA. Or you are a hi-fi FEARFUL box, or a church house PA with subwoofer.

Instead of emulating another cab, I have chosen to work with the "cabs" I have been given -- those being a 1x15 and a house PA woofer -- instead of trying to emulate an Ampeg 4x10.

Some people (including myself) like a cab that just gives us the tone of our bass with as little coloration as possible.

I primarily use the V-Amp as a pre-amp. The FX are turned off on 4 of 5 of my presets. The 5th one, I am using a touch of phaser with the Classic Clean. For the pre-amp simulations, I am using MoSound, Jazz, Classic Clean, Black Twin and Silver Panel. I am opting to emulate amp heads, not amp cabs.

Ah ok :)
Like KingRazor I also believe in taking the amp and cab out of the sound, in my perfect world the only things in my rig that influence the sound are the bass and the preamp.

Well I bought one. Not the Pro but the Ken and Barbie version. Random button pressing reveals lots of possibilities but the manual is a total mess. There's no attempt to give an overall picture of how everything fits together and interacts.

Did I miss something? Is there a block diagram somewhere that would make things clearer?

Congrats!

I highly suggest you use my Quick Start Guide to properly config + de-crapify your V-AMP.

I wrote the guide for the V-AMP Pro but most of it should also apply to the Ken + Barbie model ;-)

Let me know if you want a Member # to make it official.

Cheers!

On the Pro there is, printed on the top of the unit, as far as I remember there is no such thing on the other one.

EDIT: I would post a pic here but mine is inside a rack if anyone here has easy access to the unit it might be cool to post a pic of the diagram on the topside.

Yes please! Anyone out there got a clear view of the top of their V-Amp Pro? I'd be very grateful if you'd post a photo of the diagram.

Fun With MIDI

I finally hooked my Bass V-AMP Pro to my computer today via MIDI.

Since I generally do not use EFFECTS, I was finally able to extinguish the LED around the EFFECTS dial on all my custom patches using the free software from Behringer.

To do this, one must select "no post effect" from the drop-down box that is found in the FX section of the GUI.

Not too shabby, but I'm all done with MIDI now! :-)

Effects hater!

:D

I learned that Classic Clean with a touch of phaser has a nice sound to it.

Haha! and you and that Classic Clean! It sure is a love/hate thing for you, huh?

Interesting to note about that model is that it is based on the Roland Jazz Chorus amp primarily used by guitarists, but for whatever reason, is very ear-pleasing as a bass preamp.

Whether or not it's truly "clean" is debatable since PREAMP BYPASS mode sounds nothing like it, but then again, I'm not one for effects :-)

Cheers!
