Behringer Bass V-AMP Pro

Can you PLEASE tell me the best way to hook this up??? I wanted to use only the effects which I guess is choose the setting to L3... correct? But can I not plug my bass into my head and only use the Vamp Pro for effects thru the loop so I can just run clean without using the Vamp Pro at all, then switch back and forth??

I am completely stuck on how to best configure the set up... :crying:

Oddly enough, however, mine does not do this. It stays on whatever mode I put it on. Perhaps it's the nature of my headphones? Sony Studio Monitor Headphones.

Yeah, I meant I discovered it in the manual :)

I wouldn't have thought so, but could this be a difference between the Pro and the Ken & Barbie version?

The type of headphones wouldn't make a difference as the V-Amp detects headphones simply by a contact in the headphone jack (I found the schematics in a dark corner of the web).

That seems overly complicated.

Yes, you can just use the V-Amp for the FX. In the V-Amp settings, you turn off the Amp simulation portion. On the GK, use the FX send and return to the V-Amp return and send (note the order I wrote that, it was on purpose).

I don't know about the switching back and forth part, though. Since you are plugged into the amp head, that part will always color the sound going into the v-amp.

I'm not quite sure what you're trying to do but from what I can work out of what you're trying to do I'd just go bass > v-amp > amp input.

If you press the 2 arrow buttons on the V-Amp at the same time it bypasses the preamp and gives you a clean signal so you should be able to switch between the clean and the effect easily enough.

You should be able to do this by connecting your amp's FX send to the V-Amp's pre-DSP return jack (which will handle a level of up to +9dBu) and the V-Amp's line-out to your amp's FX return.

As there's no option on the GK for switching FX on or off, you could get around this by setting up an effect-free patch on the V-Amp, and use this as your FX off setting.

To use the Bass-V-AMP purely as a multi-effects unit, through the effects loop of your existing bass amp:

  1. Connect your amp's EFFECT SEND to the V-AMP's rear RETURN/LINE IN via 1/4" patch
  2. Connect your amp's EFFECT RETURN to the V-AMP's rear UNBALANCED "R" line out via 1/4" patch
  3. Push the LINE IN button on the front of the V-AMP so that it listens instead to the rear input
  4. Bypass the AMPS section on the V-AMP (press the [TUNER] + [TAP] buttons simultaneously)
  5. Plug your bass directly into your amp and tweak its preamp section accordingly
  6. Select and tweak the desired EFFECTS on the V-AMP
  7. Watch the CLIP light and adjust levels appropriately (i.e. the VOLUME parameter and/or the MASTER INPUT GAIN)

On my Bass V-AMP Pro, inserting a set of headphones does not change the OPERATING MODE value displayed under CONFIG at all.

I doubt that it may be silently utilizing "S1" mode regardless of what is displayed because I cannot even select CABINETS, that one should be able to do while in "S1"

Perhaps some type of headphone-friendly "cabinet" sim is in play on the headphone output, but I do not think so.

The user manual may be in error or perhaps this functionality was removed in later EPROM versions.

Personally, I am glad that inserting phones does nothing on my PRO unit, leaving subsequent choices up to me, but perhaps the non-PRO unit handles things differently, as "Barbie + Ken" have requested it :-)

I've not tried this myself, but I'd imagine one could get away with it for a little while.

The "Classic Clean" + "Tube Preamp" models found in the Bass V-AMP are available there, as well as a compressor effect to help seal the deal.

Personally, I would not find too much happiness with this setup, but then again, it sure would be better than nothing at all.

As I stated a few pages back I use the Vamp-2(guitar) version as my "practice amp". It works very well with bass, I like it alot. I have not tried using it live as an multi-FX platform, I have a pretty extensive pedal board for that, but I may yet give it a try.

I just picked one of these up used today for a song. Got the pro version. My hour or so playing with it thus far have led me to the same thoughts I have about the GTR version, which I also have. THIS THING ROCKS!

Had the Behringer POD for a year and got a Line 6 BassPODXTLive so the B POD got ebayed. I just got another B POD for my daughter(college dorm practice, jazz band bassist) and tried it out into a QSC 2402 and two ACME B2's run stereo. GEEZ!!!
This thing blows Line 6 out of the water. I remembered why I loved it back when I had one but the Line 6 offered a zillion channels(I have to be a tone chameleon in my current band). The Behringer Pro will be inserted into the signal path after the Sansamp(or instead of it!). The tube pre is amazing(I've got a Fender bassman here I'm to comparing it to).
The PRO is on the MUST GET list for the empty spot in my rack(to join a Sansamp RBI, dbx 166XL, and a QSC 2402.
