Behringer Bass V-AMP Pro

Congrats, but I highly suggest the Bass version over the Guitar version if you are a bass player! Trust me on this. I can point you to a link where you can get one for the same price or less, new, for a Bass V-AMP Pro model :-)
Yep...that's what I ordered, tha Bass model. That's why I went NEW and not used. Word must be getting around about this thread and ppl are hanging on to them now, eh?:p

Tonight's sonic experimentation is with the Tube Preamp sim. Gain at 1/4. Deep at 5/8. Bass at 1/2. Mids at 1/4. Treble at 1/2. No compression. No effects.

The base amp settings have the gain maxed, as per Charlie's initial setup suggestion.

The sonic output is going into my GK Backline 210. With just the 2x10, over 100 watts. The vibration in the walls is lovely. I am going to set a few varied options with the Tube Pre and use it this coming Sunday. I hope the worship leader's 1x15 Peavy can hold up. :D

Someone try this for me, using the above config, then set FX to Flanger. Set the Depth to max, and the speed to minimum. Through my 2x10 at home, it has a nice sound to it.

I believe this may be a trick question, Mr. Wilson!

The only two parameters one can manually tweak with regards to FLANGER are "Mix" + "Speed/Depth", under the EFFECTS knob + the TAP'd EFFECTS knob, respectfully.

A third parameter, "Intensity", is available if one has access to a MIDI controller :-)

Cheers!

As a follow-up to my smarty-pants answer above to The Caeman :bassist: (thanks, Chad!) ...

I would like to share with you how I knew what parameters were available and where they are accessed.

Notice the many additional parameters that one can only access via MIDI and/or the free software from Behringer! :-)

Cheers!

Been looking around at power amps to go with my V-AMP and dang, they're expensive. Both the Crown XLS 1000 and the QSC GX3 run at $300. I'm sure that's a good price but all I'd be using it for would be to power one speaker cab. I can understand the cab being a lot, but seriously, the poweramp is nearly double the price of my pre-amp!

Still loving my V-AMP, btw :)

Edit: Also, Charlie, how do you recommend I setup my V-AMP if I want to use an external Equalizer? I want my bass signal to go through the V-AMP and then through the Equalizer before it reaches any other part of the signal chain.

Even funnier is that the average 4-space rack box to hold them is more than half the price of a new Bass V-AMP Pro.

With coupon codes or steep discounts you may be able to reduce your total cost to $250 on either of those amps.

My only suggestion for you is to buy NEW, since at least you will have some type of warranty should it fail.

Hang in there!

Also, in regard to your EQ question, I would use either of the 2 effect loops on the rear of the V-AMP, either PRE or POST DSP depending on the situation, and then you should be all set. But now you'll need an even bigger rack box :-)

Lots of people say this beats the POD, has anyone compared it to the old Johnson J Station? This was the original POD competitor from Digitech that many, including me, thought beat the POD in several categories.

I have not had access to one of those, but let me say that the Line 6 POD X3 family of products is a VERY STRONG contender.

Way back in this thread I compare the Bass V-AMP Pro and the POD X3 Pro for bass use, including a link to hear sound comparisons.

The V-AMP Pro gets my vote, but if somehow I could combine both units, we'd have an even stronger product.

I'm bad at looking for coupons, hopefully I'll find a good deal somewhere.

I had planned on purchasing that equalizer from the beginning, so I was already going to get a rack big enough to hold it (and it takes up half as much verticle space as the V-AMP :D )

if I have it PRE DSP, does that mean it will skip any amp modeling or compression I have set up on the V-AMP?

PRE will work on your raw bass signal first before going through to the AMPS, COMPRESSION + EFFECTS sections.

POST will work on the fully-completed bass tone processed via DSP, right before it hits the MASTER volume knob.

Personally, with 3 EQ points in the V-AMP, with the primary one being sweepable in the MID, I would find it hard to justify using an external EQ for my own needs. Additionally note that you will not be able to store your external EQ settings along with different patches as would occur if EQ'd solely inside the V-AMP.

With this said though, what do I know? This is your rig!

In all seriousness, you may find use for the money saved on an EQ to spend elsewhere? :-)

Cheers!

I find shelving EQs to be pretty limited. That's why the external equalizer I'm getting has 6 bands of fully parametric EQ. This gives me much more control over the shape of my tone than almost any other equalizer out there. Plus, it's a digital device that you can also store your settings on, like the V-AMP. :)

Also, I found this device (which normally goes for around $300) for only $175, so I'm definitely going to snatch it up.

Nice! Should that EQ also have a MIDI interface, you could in fact program a foot controller to switch the V-AMP and EQ patches synchronously! :D
