Behringer Bass V-AMP Pro

Picking up on the external EQ conversation, let's say some amazing soul was to crack how to modify the V-AMP EPROM, what would you like to see in the new EPROM (taking into account what appear to be the limitations of the unit.
To me it would be:
- Changing the EQ to a 3 band semi-parametric (tap+knob changes the cutoff)
- More options on the compressor, accessible by MIDI, like release and knee.

For now I'm looking for a MIDI controllable EQ and Compressor. It's a shame that both Behringer multi FX units don't allow to use the EQ and Comp at the same time.

Yes to the parametric EQ.

Flanger: TAP button controls speed, EFFECTS controls Mix, TAP+EFFECTS controls Depth.

Same thing for Chorus and Stero Chorus. Speed and Depth should NEVER be combine into one setting! Such a sin.

as some of you may know i've been beta testing the VamPROM Bass chip for the FCB1010... i've received it and put it though it's paces; and it works great.

There are four Modes, easily switched between using the Up/Down pedals:

* Effect Mode: Turn individual effects inside the Bass V-Amp series on/off (Compressor, Pre-FX, FX, Drive, Wah, EQ, Denoiser, Amp, Tap Tempo, & Tuner), with On/Off state of Bass V-Amp's effects reflected on FCB1010 pedal's LEDs

* Preset Mode: Enter preset A-E using pedals 1-5, Decrement/Increment Bank using pedals 6 & 7, Tuner on/off with pedal 10

* Favorite Preset Mode: Allows you to store and recall your 10 favorite presets with the push of a pedal!

* Loop Mode: Use the internal looper, with up to 16 second loops. Record, overdub, reverse, 1/2 speed, normal speed, 1.5x speed, 2x speed, & 4x speed.

The preset mode will let you access all 25 banks. The thing I like most was that I could select a preset using either the preset mode or favorites mode... switch to effects mode and then control the individual effects for that preset. very cool!

The price is really high and I think the capabilities are really overkill for a simple bass rack but since it has digital I/O and I have a home studio.... got to think about it.

I've had two. Gave one to my son and sold the other to buy more toys. Only problem I had was its complexity. Don't want no rack stuff anymore, anyway. Too much weight and hassle for how often and where I play.

Not to spam the topic but just remembered to point out something about the Bass V-Amp. The wha sucks....(at least on a drop C bass) it's a shame because even the less than good stuff in this unit is not that bad but the Wha is really awful.

Tip #2: Operating Modes

Like any modeling pre/amp, the Bass V-AMP must be configured to output the best signal for use with your other gear.

By default, most are set to connect straight into a mixer/recorder and unfortunately, most people connect them to some type of real bass/guitar amp, never change the operating mode, and then they are quick to proclaim that, "Modeling devices sound horrible! Nothing compares to a real amp!"

My Bass V-AMP is set to "Live 3" (L3), where cabinet simulation is off (because I'm using a real cab) and the XLR DI jacks output Behringer's ULTRA-G cabinet simulator, which is actually quite good.

Unlike other modelers, like Line 6 Pod X3, the Bass V-AMP totally removes cabinet selection functionality from the user when it is set to L2 or L3, which I think is how it should be.

The Bass V-AMP has six powerful operating modes, all worth exploring or reading about.

But which ever you choose, use the right one for your setup else it will really sound horrible, and you, too, will hate modelers!

I've had one for 2 yrs. Awesome product . So many amp models but I seem to go to SVT all the time . Does require the settings to be tweaked for your setup to avoid hum , clipping etc.. I love it !!!

And for those electronics nerds like me you can use the switching capabilities of the FCB1010 and create an A/B/Y supplement that would work charms as an FX-Loop On/Off.

Glad to help, Chris. At one time I used to scratch my head and wonder, "The rest of the V-AMP is so well done, but it's too bad the tuner really sucks!" ... Now we both know better! (and the added gain really drives the AMP models more realistically now as well)

P.S. For the curious out there, the major symptom that used to plague the tuner was that the "reading" of the notes was hard to trigger, and when I did hit the notes hard enough to trigger the display, the reading was so quick and then gone that the tuner was basically un-usable. I thought, "It's almost like it can't hear me well enough... Sort of like the SVT amp model in there that I'm unable to push into overdrive... It's like I need to somehow boost the input signal across the whole unit overall... BINGO!"

I also found using a 12th fret harmonic makes the tuner "behave" .

I love presets as long as they are my own I create patches and program the V-AMP for various tones + basses, but all of them were created by me and for my own style, not the "preset" ones from the factory. Programmability is a good thing, but taking the junk presets that come default with the unit is beneath me and anybody in the V-AMP Squad

Man i don't have time to dig through 30 pages for the answer to this so sorry if this has already been discussed.

I need more watts so I was thinking of using one of my bands extra PA power amps and buying one of these to use as a preamp

Will the cheaper bass v amp work for this? Aside from the physical difference between the v amp and v amp pro, is there a huge difference between the features of the two? Do they function the same soundwise?
