Once in a while, it would retain the settings, but for the most part it would come back on and be on totally different settings, and never the same one twice....somtimes A1 and blinking, sometimes A9, somtimes B......

Whatever you do decide to replace it with in the future, be sure to buy from a retailer who will allow you a full refund within 45-days or more, should you not be 100% satisfied (or if the unit shows signs of failure.)
I have a feeling that this would have been to your advantage in this case.

I admire CharlieC for really sticking with a unit, may be unpopular in many circles. Many folks may not like something and that is not because they have played with it, but because of what they had heard. The old Digitech BP-50 took a lot of slack. Yet, once you set down and figured the thing out, it was a good little piece of gear that could really make a so-so amp sound really good. I also have a Behringer BDI-21 and it is a great little pre-amp. Later I might check out one of these V-AMP's. THis thread has sold me on it.
Perhaps the replacement was a bad one...maybe replacing the replacement would help.
And, I've never looked inside (nor do I currently own one), is proper polarity of the battery a given or is it possible to insert the battery with reversed polarity?
I went through a series of problems due to the battery on my unit. Loss of output, erratic patches, all LEDs going to 12 noon regardless of patch, etc. It was a mess. I believe I had two problems going on 1) my 'new' battery wasn't so new so I had to get another and 2) I had to do a factory reset after putting in a good battery. This finally restored my unit working condition.

Im going to stop at Radio Shack today and get another battery. The Duracell I got at CVS says DL-2032 on it, but on the package, it had the CD-2032 listed as well that it was a replacement for. Worth a try. Thanks guys.
Aha! I believe this is the incorrect battery type!
The correct type I believe is the CR-2032 (can anyone confirm)
Go to Radio Shack and get Catalog # 23-802

After you replace the battery, do the system reset, then perform the test I suggested yesterday to test memory retention after power-down

Let's assume it would not be an exact match and take a chance on a fresh, exact-match battery from Radio Shack for $5
Im all for trying it.... It looked like an exact match, same size, had '3V' stamped on it, and said it was a replacement for the CR2032, but Im still gonna give it a shot....
Just so I know my memory isnt playing tricks on me, the side of the battery with the 2032, and the 3V stamping faces up correct? Thanks guys.
Thanks, TUEP, but believe me, the Bass V-AMP sells itself once it is heard, well-amplified, through a quality bass cabinet!
I've spent more on dinner for two than for my V-AMP and I'm still yielding returns on the latter investment.

After much frustration, I decided to just use the V-amp default settings (finding D-11 a good place for my bass). One night I sat down with the manual and decided to really get to know the unit. I couldn't believe what all it could do.
And after seeing the much-easier-to-use software interface, I ordered a cable off of Amazon for $4+shipping. I can't wait for it to get here.
BTW, mine is not the Pro version. Originally I though it way too noisy, but turns out it was the bass' grounding that was the problem.
