Behringer Bass V-AMP Pro

Well, thanks to Keith Taber of Goleta, CA, I now have a Bass V-Amp Pro with an FBC1010 midi pedal board! I found the pair on CraigsList, and Keith packed them very well for the trip. They were used for a studio session several years ago, and then packed away with the protective tape still on their displays. I'm looking forward to getting started tomorrow on learning.

However, I first wanted to answer a request which I read earlier in this thread -- someone wanted a scan of the block diagram on top of the V-Amp Pro. My scanner had to do it in two sections, which I reassembled. That's why there is a join line, and the slightly different coloration and focus. I don't see any point on spending more money right now but in the future I also plan on going (even) more modular. Since I have a bit of a fetish for rack units I'm thinking a 1RU preamp (like Sansamp RBI or BBE BMax) plus 1RU compressor and some other rack or stomp-box effects. My dream rig would be a MIDI controllable analog preamp (like the PSA1.1) and compressor, and then a MIDI fx loop to put everything else.
On the other hand I do get a lot of GAS looking at the X3 Pro...oh well

Caeman, have you ever tried the Behringer BDI21? It also has a lot of love on the interwebz, I personally like it but I think something less SVT would fit me better. I would LOVE if Behringer would put out a simpler analog rack bass preamp, if it had digital preset saving it would be just perfect.

Hi Charlie,
Just felt I had to say that, contrary to a lot of snobbish (?) posts/comments, I've been using my Behringer gear for nearly 10 years without a single fault or complaint.
I've previousley used best of gear like Fender, Marshall & TE.
I'm now hoping my Bass V-Amp Pro will further enhance my gigging sound.

Glad to do it, just have to apologize for the delay and say that I also have plots for the amp simulations without cabinets and for each "matched cab+amp" combination. Still have to crop them then I'll send them to Charlie.

EDIT: Charlie, you forgot to say, in the readme file, that the Yellow line on each plot is the bypass with no cabinet simulation.

Whuh....more bad news. Took the V-Amp Pro to service last night for another bassist to use. We spent 15 minutes trying to get output through the XLR, then settled on the unbalanced out to another DI box, but something was amiss. The tone was all wrong, all static like a fuzz effect was on...but it wasn't.

I haven't sat down with, yet, to diagnose everything out, but I plan on following the setup guide for my initial problem solving. A reset, being the main step, and then see what happens.

Between the button issue last time, and now this incident, this may be The Almighty's way of telling you that it's time for a new V-AMP :)

I had not time to diagnose the problem, so for Sunday service, I am going to Plan B: my guitar pedal board. Primarily, two of the pedals; the Dyno Brain preamp and DOD Flanger.

Problem #1: The "Line-In (Rear)" button has been pressed, which it shouldn't be. This was easy enough to solve by unpressing it.

Problem #2: Very distorted output via XLR and 1/4" unbalanced.

I did a system reset, brought up the V-Amp Editor and we are back in business with the Bass V-Amp.

The bank down button remains broken.

I did a little searching on the board, but I didn't find any mentions of this, so here goes:

First, many thanks to CharlieC for all the great tips. I've had my Bass V-Amp Pro now for a couple years. After the initial excitement, I decided to concentrate on actually learning to play. But now, a couple of years later, I'm interested in playing with the thing. Plus, that damn manual...

One of the first things I didn't like about the BVAP was having to tweak settings on the knobs. I looked at a bunch of switches and on Behringer's site. Again, Behringer's a little thin on documentation. For example, the Behringer FCB1010 Midi Foot Controller. It's hyped to be compatible with some of their amps. Then there's "All products with this icon are equipped with a MIDI Interface and benefit from the optionally available FCB1010." The icon is conspicuously lacking from the BVAP product page. Dumbasses.

Turns out the FCB1010 has factory presets specifically for the BVAP (press 1+8 while powering up).

But again with the lack of documentation, or lame documentation. Great, now I've got the factory presets. What are they again?

So, you could spend a lot of time and energy programming, blah, blah, blah... But wait!

Check THIS out: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. A pre-programmed PROM for the FCB1010. With glow-in-the-dark labels for the pedals! I know!

But wait, there's more! For those who simply must geek out and program the FCB1010 all custom-y n' stuff, there's Link Removed - "UnO stands for "UnOfficial" firmware update for the Behringer FCB1010.

The Behringer FCB1010 floorboard is one nice piece of MIDI hardware for its price. Unfortunately, its firmware contains a few nasty bugs, and it doesn’t look like the manufacturer is planning to do anything about that. Therefore, I decided to solve those bugs on my unit, and at the same time add some interesting extras."

Take a couple of inexpensive pieces of gear (I got mine restock & used) and a World Wide Web of enthusiasts and geeks (& bass players), and you've got a pretty decent way to make some interesting noises.

It's true. You can take your $2K Lakland and make it sound like a Squier with a short in the control plate. With delay. And wah. And loop it.

BWHAHAHAHAHA!

...and for all the doubters and haters, and especially the complaints about reliability. Pffft! Two BVAPs (one for backup) retail still cost less than the Line6 Pod X3 Pro. Shoo, two BVAPS and an FCB1010. More money for the important part of your rig: the bass.

I only paid $70 for my BVP, so I am fairly certain any attempt to fix the broken Bank Down button won't be worth the time. For the now, I will just deal with one bank being active and make best use of the 5 presets available.

As a backup, I have a pedal board case with a tuner, EQ, chorus, flanger and DI box in it. The chorus and flanger are from my guitar board, and I hardly use them with guitar. My favorite effect, tremolo, is absent from the BVP.
