Hey Guys I just got my V amp fro the friendly UPS guy today, and I have pretty much been following this thread for the last month. Its the reason I pulled the trigger on this little beast. Thanks everyone for all the great info btw!!

I do have one question on my setup though, I also run a hartke LH500 as my power amp, and I would like to continue to use the tube pre that it has. Would I be safe to come out of the effects send on the hartke to the pre DSP insert on the V amp and out of the post DSP back into the effects return of the Hartke? does this sound like it would work. That way I could still plug directly into the Hartke because its only input that still utilizes the tube pre is the jack in front. this would keep all my wiring in the back and not have to wrap one around to the fron of my rack.:help: I know I'm making this way more confusing than it has to be.

Oh ya Charlie can I get a number too? please :bassist:

Welcome, Squad Member #25!

In all honesty I say, forget about the real-tube preamp provided by the Hartke LH500

The V-AMP can do that tone and then some, I know because my other rig is tube-driven and I have no problem trading between the two rigs in the name of convenience (and possible ridicule, haha!)

Use your ears, go tone crazy and play what moves you, but for me, I cannot tell you what a surprise the V-AMP is for one-stop-shopping tone

But to answer your question: Yes, you can hook the V-AMP to your Hartke as described, just watch the CLIP light and be sure to then run the V-AMP for EFFECTS only, as combining preamps may actually over-color your tone, but perhaps that may be desirable

Cheers!

Awesome Charlie thanks for the lightning fast reply!! I just may try that if I can get some of those awesome tones your getting. Maybe a little experimentation is in order, I will report back with my finding asap. #25....I like that!!:bassist:

Well, having replaced the battery inside my BVAP it worked perfectly...and then the output just faded away and died... halfway through band practice.

So now I am thinking the Eprom is to blame. I'd mentioned before that mine was 1.08 (or whatever the last one before the current one was!!!! isn't it 1.09 these days?). Should I pull the trigger and spend the money on this, or will I be disappointed? Could that be the issue...? Will it be the last...? When this thing works, it's awesome. When it doesn't, it's junk. It seems to walk the thin line between the two.

I really liked the tones I was getting, but I can't be having pre-amps die on me.

Love/hate relationship right now. I was 'this' close to having my rig dialed in. Now I'm 'that' far. Will the chip swap out be the end of it? I can't imagine it being anything else? Am I wrong?

Help!

So sorry, Thud!

Out of curiosity, please tell us again of the pedigree of your V-AMP. Was it new or used? (IMHO this has a lot to do with things.)

I am going to lean towards the issue being hardware failure for which I do not believe a new EPROM will fix.

You may want to weigh your options based on how much it would cost you to replace the current V-AMP in your rig with a brand new one or any type of replacement for that matter.

I know of no piece of gear for under $200 USD that could replace the V-AMP and all it's capabilities in my rig, but then again, if you personally can't feel comfortable relying on it then what's the point?

Cheers!

It was used, but my issue is that rather than just dropping out it sort of just faded away. Could this be 'hardware'?
Everything was working just fine, but then faded away (oh, the jokes one could insert right here...).
Were it 'hardware' wouldn't it be intermittent, or just just drop off?

I also found that there were some 'settings' where I could coax a sound out - albeit very quiet. That would indicate the main processor, right? Rather than mechanicals, I mean.

Probably won't replace it. I'll spend the additional few bucks (or couple hundred) for a decent bass head. It'll be the cost of the BVAP plus another BVAP, so it's not that cost effective to me. I have floor pedals/pre-amps, so I can live without it.

That said, CharlieC, I want to give you the due kudos for your thread. Excellent work.

Shame, I kinda liked the BVAP. I didn't $200 like it, but lesson learned.

On my setup, I run the bass into the BVAP, and out of that into the front input on my Carvin BX1200, for the same reason, I like the tone the Carvin produces (It's got full controls, not just a power amp). Running the BVAP from the DSP loop didn't seem to produce the same results to me. I set the BVAP on bypass, dial in the Carvin to a good sound, and then kick in the BVAP and tweak even further. Another nice thing about that is, should the BVAP fail for some reason, I can just switch the bass from the input on the BVAP to the input on the Carvin, and I'm right back in business with a good sound. I'm gonna try and get a pic of my rig up one of these days... lol.

Welcome to the club...er, squad, Riley. I've been away from TB for awhile (long work days and a crashed PC...and NO, Behringer doesn't make PC's:rolleyes:) hehehe.

Let us all know some of your fave settings when you find them. - Dann

EDIT: I posted a few of my faves on this thread (me thinks). Will organize them and link the file here in the near future. Is this a good idea, anyone?

Greetings CharlieC and everyone else! I thought it was a lone madman until I found you on TalkBass. I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and this is my stuff for 2 years. My VAMP sounds great, I have no problems. A big hug to the family of VAMPERS!!!

Thanks and welcome to our V-AMP brother from Argentina!

For such a monstrous bass rig, may I suggest a Member # in the V-AMP Squad?

Cheers!

Ok guys got everything set up and it sounds great. rockin some good channels, but I really want to utilize the computer software via MIDI. I bought a USB to MIDI controller, plug it in the back of the V-amp and plug the USB into the computer. Set the Midi channel to 1 and do the same for the software, but I'm getting no communication. could someone walk me through this so I can get these to talking? I have a gig tonight so I 'm just going to use the 3 channels I have set up, but I wanna rock this thing to all its potential. Thanks for any help guys. :bassist:

I think I got this from somewhere in this monster of a thread. You need something called ASIO4ALL.

ASIO4ALL - Universal ASIO Driver

Install that and it should work, it worked for me.

over the last couple of weeks i was not able to attend practise. our guitarist took the opportunity and shamelessly started to play around with my v-amp pro in our practise room.
he seems to have liked it, guess what i found at practise yesterday? a brand new v-amp in blue......

It is interesting to note that unlike the Silver Bass V-AMP, the Blue Guitar V-AMP does not feature any AMP models specifically for bass or keys, but one could easily find and tweak a suitable compromise.

Here is a really cool demo of the Guitar V-AMP:

Guitar V-AMP Demo On YouTube

Please note that the Bass V-AMP model is fully capable of these same guitar tones and it has the advantage of being bass and key friendly, but I sure am envious of that blue color over the silver!

Is there a way to have the Bass V-amp pro function only as an effects unit? No amp sim or cab sim?

Yes. You can turn off the amp/cab sim and pre-amp section with the right key sequence on the unit, or with a click of the mouse via the software.

But, I consider the effects the weakest part of the unit. You are left with the noise gate, compressor and just ONE effect active. Via the software, you can also have the Auto WAH turned on.
