sorry to change the subject but i need some advise.

i want to connect my v-amp to a poweramp through the two 1/4" unbalanced outputs. the poweramp has both jack and XLR input ports. i don't know the exact difference between jack and XLR connectors.
my question is, should i use a jack/jack cable or a jack/XLR cable to connect the units?

many thanks for your help.

By you saying "both jack and XLR" I will assume you mean both 1/4" and XLR inputs.

For this use, and for such a short run to the amp, you will want to use the 1/4". XLR outs on the V-AMP are intended for inputs at a mixer, recorder, or FOH board.

Cheers!

hey charlie, thanks. but i was trying to ask what port into the poweramp i should use, the 1/4 jack or the XLR?

Use the 1/4" outs from the V-AMP to the 1/4" inputs on the power amp for the following reasons:

Depending on the V-AMP's operating mode, the XLR outs will be affected (colored) by the ULTRA-G cabinet sim and the 1/4" outs will most likely contain the desired signal you want to feed to your power amp + bass cabinets.

Secondly, the V-AMP's XLRs are fixed volume, meaning your MASTER on the V-AMP will be useless and you then will have no choice but to use the input attenuators on your power amp to control the volume of your rig.

For these reasons alone, and the fact that your V-AMP to power amp cable distance will be less than 6 feet, you will want to use the 1/4" connection option with quality cables.

Generally in pro audio you will want to use the XLR inputs to your amp because they are balanced and of better quality, especially in longer cable runs, however this will not work to your benefit when connecting the V-AMP to a power amp driving bass cabinets.

Cheers!

Master Input Gain

Behringer buries this critical parameter, but it's basically "set it and forget it", one-time only, for the majority of players. Some amps have two inputs with different, fixed sensitivity levels, but the V-AMP has one input with a user-definable sensitivity level.

Master Volume

This is your volume knob. Every amp should have one. :-)

Channel Gain

This is exactly the GAIN or DRIVE knob found on every pro-level bass amp. More gain equals more saturation or dirt. Sign me up for eleven on this knob. :-)

Channel Volume

This is a "must-have" to ensure that you make the most of the available preamp headroom and to match the levels of your different patches with each other. Most amps have one patch and basically is why you never see this necessary knob. Thanks, Behringer!

Cheers!

thanks to all for the input!

i understand that i use the jack output from the v-amp to send the signal to the poweramp.

my question still is: since the poweramp has both jack and XLR input ports, what cable do i use, a jack - jack cable or a jack - XLR cable?

thanks

1/4" plugs on both ends of the cable

If you had no other choice, you perhaps could have also gone with 1/4" plug for the V-AMP side over to XLR male on the other end, a specially wired cable.

I'm a one knob set it and forget it kind of guy, lol :D

Thanks for this overview of them though. I like low gain 'cuz I like a nice clean tone. But I do like some warmth in there. Like if you keep the low gain switch on the tube channel of a Genz Benz Shuttle amp.

I rarely use more than one patch which is why I'd prefer a single volume control. But I suppose I really can just set and forget it and just adjust it as needed.

I'm a more knobs the merrier kind of guy personally. If I could change one thing about the v-amp it would be making separate knobs for all the controls, rather than having to access via holding 2nd parameter button.

+1

... and if they must keep the "2nd Parameter" button functionality, I would suggest it work like a CAPS LOCK key on a keyboard, i.e. press once and release to activate "2nd Param" mode, then press again and release to turn-off "2nd Param" mode

Bit the bullet and will have one on Monday or Tuesday. Worst case scenario I have to unplug the cords on the back when transporting. Better than what I use now - a large keyboard bag where the unit slides around and is much bigger than I need.

I'll post the review of this case once I receive it.

Well, not disappointed one bit! A great case for the FCB1010 MIDI Foot Controller! The case gives the FCB1010 a snug fit with enough room to lay your AC Cord (which must be removed when placing in case) on the lower portion of the board. The case itself is made much like the FCB1010 - like a tank. The case has a front pocket where I can keep extra cables/tools/strings (or as CharlieC calls them: umbrella's ;) )

If you have the FCB1010 and need a GREAT case for it, then grab yourself one of these. I picked mine up new for $50 - taxes in.

Anyway, I hope this helps the Behringer group in some way...
